Jack Swagger defeated Matt Hardy to retain the ECW Tilte - Normal match. Nothing out of the ordinary. Melina defeated Beth Phoenix to regain the WWE Women's Championship - No Rosa Mendez which was surprising. Beth did a new move thought where she bent Melina's leg back and made her kick herself in the head. John Cena defeated JBL to retain the World Title - While ref was knocked out HBK got in the ring and Superkicked JBL, but then Superkicked Cena as well. He then pulled JBL on top of Cena and walked to the back. A new ref came down and Cena kicked out. Cena went on to get the pinfall. Edge defeated Jeff Hardy to regain the WWE Title - The match was changed to a no DQ match. Matt Hardy came out and it looked like the Hardys were going to do a con-chair-to, but Matt laid Jeff out with the chair instead. Edge then got the pin. Having Matt turn on Jeff has been a long time coming. Jeff's always been the more popular one. Here is what the WWE should do to add to the feud/angle--Have Jeff bring in Christian so it will be Matt & Edge v. Jeff & Christian (does WWE still pretend that Edge and Christian are brothers?). Randy Orton won the Royal Rumble - He last eliminated Triple H (who was in the process of elimination Ted DiBiase. No major surprise entrys except RVD.
Royal Rumble Dave Says: Let's go with Randy Orton. I Say: Orton will win. This will lead up to Vince McMahon having the guy who kicked him in the head headlining Wrestlemania. Someone else could still win so we can have an Orton v. McMahon WM25 match though. Here's some 'booking for thought' Orton wins, It is FINALLY fully acknowledged that Trips is Vince's son-in-law and Trips attacks Orton for insulting Steph and assualting Vince and Orton tries to get his revenge by taking the WWE Title from Trips which he will win sometime after the Rumble, but before WM25.
John Cena (c) vs. John "Bradshaw" Layfield (with Shawn Michaels) Singles match for the World Heavyweight Championship Dave Says: Since this is the prelude to WrestleMania I assume they're going to go with Cena in the main event and he does have his new movie coming out so I see a Cena victory and maybe Michaels turning on Layfield. On the other hand this Michaels/Layfield angle may yet have a bit of steam in it but I suspect Cena will keep the title regardless of what happens. I Say: I like this angle a lot. HBK has had the WWE's best 2 angles over the past year - This one and the one with Jericho. For some reason I think that this feud will be a little more abbreviated though. Here is what I think will happen HBK will cause JBL to lose setting up a match between them at Wrestlemania.
Beth Phoenix (c) vs. Melina Singles match for the WWE Women's Championship Dave Says: I'll go with my honey, Melina I Say: It's tough to say where say where the angle with Rosa Mendez is going to go. It can either be that Rosa helps Beth win with Beth warming up to her or with Rosa causing Beth to lose and creating more tension between them. I'll say that Melina wins by DQ.
Jeff Hardy (c) vs. Edge Singles match for the WWE Championship Dave Says: This is a tough one. Would they give it to Edge yet again? I hope so. Do they want Hardy headlining WrestleMania? Would they have neither of the big two titles switch hands. I think Edge will win it yet again. I Say: Jeff Hardy retains the title. Hardy wins.
Jack Swagger (c) vs. Matt Hardy Singles match for the ECW Championship Dave Says: Jack who? In honor of Bush leaving the White House I'm going to go with my gut and pick Jack Swagger. Oh and... Fuck You Bush. I Say: I think that this is the match most likely to see a title change. I'm going to pick Swagger though.
Dave picked: Orton, Cena, Melina, Edge, and Swagger. I picked: Orton, Cena, Beth, Hardy, and Swagger
John Cena defeated Jericho Batista defeated Randy Orton Jeff Hardy defeated Edge and Triple H to become the new WWE Champion CM Punk defeated Rey Mysterio to become the #1 contender for the IC Title Kozlov defeated Matt Hardy Fit Finlay defeated Mark Henry Maria, Michelle McCool, Kelly Kelly, & Mickie James defeated Victoria, Natalya, Jillian, & Maryse in an 8-Man Tag Match.
Correct predictions are in bold italic. We both had the same picks so we tied at 3/6 correct (We didn't do picks for the Diva Match)
Note to Readers: This just happens to be the 3rd anniversary of Wrestleblogger Predictions. It was 3 Armageddons ago that I posted my first set of predictions.
I am a little pressed for time so I am going to be very brief. World Heavyweight Championship John Cena (c) vs. Chris Jericho I Say: I can see Jericho regaining the title for the 3rd time this year, but I think Cena will pull out the win. Dave Says: Well, Jericho is on the poster for Armageddon but I still don't see him winning the title. Cena wins.
Triple Threat match for the WWE Championship Edge (c) vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Triple H I Say: I think that Edge will retain. HHH may win, but there is no way that Hardy wins THE top title in the industry. Dave Says: Oh Lord, could this possibly be a setup for another HHH title run? I'm going to go with Edge keeping the title but maybe that's just because he's the only one in the match I'm a fan of.
Batista vs. Randy Orton I Say: I think that Orton will pull it out since I don't think that he has gotten a big singles win since he's been back. Dave Says: Orton
Intercontinental Championship match CM Punk vs. Rey Mysterio I Say: I see Punk as more of an IC or US Champ rather than a World Champ. Punk wins. Dave Says: CM Punk
Matt Hardy vs. Vladimir Kozlov If there is only one thing guaranteed in wrestling it's this - The champion(s) ALWAYS loses non-title matches. Kozlov wins. Dave Says: Kozlov Mark Henry vs. Finlay Belfast Brawl I Say: I really don't care, but I think that Henry will win. Dave Says: There seems to be a lot of boring matches. Henry wins
I'm not going to list them, but we both agreed on all of them. It will be a tie.
As I was reviewing the results I realized that we didn't include predictions for the biggest category - WWE Superstar of the Year. Oh Well....
Match of the Year Winner: Ric Flair vs. Shawn Michaels - WrestleMania XXIV. No Appearance by Flair, but JBL did come out and take the award from HBK. Me: 1/1Dave: 0/1 Diva of the Year Winner: Beth Phoenix. Melina was one of the presenters so she and Phoenix started brawling on the stage. Me: 1/2 Dave: 0/2 OMG Moment of the Year
Winner: CM Punk cashes in Money in the Bank and defeats Edge for the World Heavyweight Championship on the June 30 edition of RAW. Me: 1/3 Dave: 0/3 Couple of the Year Winner: Edge and Vickie Guerrero Me: 2/4 Dave: 0/4 Tag Team of the Year Winner: John Morrison and The Miz Me: 3/5 Dave: 1/5 Finishing Maneuver of the Year Winner: Shooting Star Press (Evan Bourne). Bourne wasn't there, but Mike Knox came out and took the award. Me: 3/6 Dave: 1/6 Extreme Moment of the Year Winner: Jeff Hardy’s Swanton Bomb on Randy Orton from the Raw set (Raw, Jan. 14) Me: 3/7Dave: 1/7
The following awards weren't given on RAW, but rather on WWE.com Best WWE.com Exclusive Winner: The Miz and John Morrison present “The Dirt Sheet” Me: 4/8Dave: 1/8 Breakout Star of the Year Winner: Vladimir Kozlov Me: 5/9Dave: 1/9 Best Musical Performance Winner: R-Truth’s Entrance (Smackdown, Sept 15) Me: 5/10Dave: 1/10 Announce Team of the Year Winner:Matt Striker and Todd Grisham Me: 5/11 Dave: 1/11 Best Impersonation Winner:Charlie Haas as “The Glamahass” (RAW, Oct 27) Me: 5/12 Dave: 2/12 The results of our predictions were a little rough if you ask me. Until Armageddon...
We're going to do a little something different. Instead of a PPV, we are going to predict who we think will (not should) win the Slammy Awards this coming Monday.
Match of the Year * Royal Rumble Match - Royal Rumble 2008 * Money in the Bank ladder match: CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho vs. John Morrison vs. Montel Vontavious Porter vs. Carlito vs. Mr. Kennedy vs. Shelton Benjamin - WrestleMania XXIV * Ric Flair vs. Shawn Michaels - WrestleMania XXIV * Hell in a Cell Match: The Undertaker vs. Edge - SummerSlam 2008 I Say: I am going to go out on a limb and say that Flair and HBK win. I hesitate a little bit since Flair's not under contract though. Dave Says:I assume this is match of the year although it doesn't say so. Flair vs Michaels would certainly be a historical match but I don't remember if it was a GREAT match. I'll say Undertaker vs Edge. Why not? Diva of the Year * Beth Phoenix * Kelly Kelly * Michelle McCool * Mickie James I Say: I can realistically see any of them winning, but I will say that McCool wins since it would be a good platform to begin her rumored heel turn if she came out and started gloating about the win. If she doesn't win I say it could be Kelly Kelly since it could help elevate her a bit more for a rumored Playboy spread. Dave Says:I would assume this is going to Michelle McCool. The only other possible winner is Smelly Kelly but my coin toss says McCool. I wonder if she would be doing so well if her name was Michelle McLoser. OMG Moment of the Year * John Cena returns at the Royal Rumble * Floyd Mayweather, Jr. punches The Big Show and breaks his nose at No Way Out * CM Punk cashes in Money in the Bank and defeats Edge for the World Heavyweight Championship on the June 30 edition of RAW * The Undertaker sends Edge to hell at SummerSlam I Say: Hands Down - Cena's Rumble return (and win). Dave Says: I would pick the Mayweather punch because despite it being a cheap publicity stunt it appears he legit broke Big Show's nose. Given that he is a boxer who I would assume would be well aware of what his punch is capable of I have to wonder if he was scripted to give him a legit shot in which case The Big Show is either nuts or extremely brave. I would have gone with the CM Punk title change but it ended in such a dumb way so I guess I'm sticking with Mayweather. I really wasn't originally planning on picking this one but I just talked myself into it. Couple of the Year * Santino Marella and Beth Phoenix * Edge and Vickie Guerrero * William Regal and Layla * Finlay and Hornswoggle I Say: It has to be Glamarella or Edge and Vicki. I really, really want to pick Glamarella, but with Edge and Vicki now allies again (I think. I haven't seen SD since before S.Series) I tend to favor the SD duo. I'll say that Glamarella wins. Dave Says: Anything but Marella and Phoenix would render the Slammy's null and void. I think this category was literally created to give to Marella and Phoenix. Tag Team of the Year * John Morrison and The Miz * Priceless (Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase) * Cryme Tyme (JTG and Shad Gaspard) * Carlito and Primo I Say: Miz and Morrison have to be the favorites since they have gotten a handful of impressive wins over the past few months. Dave Says:I would have to go with Carlito and Primo because they... WTF???? The winners will likely be Morrison and The Miz if for nothing else then Morrison delivered a superkick to Shawn Michaels face on two different occasions. Finishing Maneuver of the Year * RKO (Randy Orton) * Hell's Gate (The Undertaker) * Knockout Punch (The Big Show) * Shooting Star Press (Evan Bourne) I Say: Undertaker's Hell's Gate wins. Dave Says: Shooting Star Press is cool but it's Billy Kidman's old move (didn't even change the name). RKO is just a Diamond Cutter and Knockout punch is a... uh... punch. Not sure what Hell's Gate is. I'll go with the RKO because I'm sure they would prefer to give an award to Orton.
Extreme Moment of the Year * Jeff Hardy’s Swanton Bomb on Randy Orton from the Raw set (Raw, Jan. 14) * Undertaker falls off ladder through table as Edge wins TLC Match (One Night Stand) * JBL throws John Cena off stage into car windshield (The Great American Bash) * Chris Jericho smashes Shawn Michaels’ head through Jeri-Tron (Raw, June 9) I Say: I would pick Hardy, but he does a lot of extreme stuff so that one is kinda the norm so I am going to have to pass on that one. The JBL/Cena one wasn't anything spectacular to me from what I remember. And the Y2J/HBK one was just phony looking since the TV was obviously fake since the TV was hollowed out. Put him through an older TV with a tube and that'll impress me more. That leaves UT's fall through the tables. That's my pick because Taker is so old that I am surprised that he's willing to do something that requires him to fall more than 6 inches. He better start getting into a Sid Eudy state-of-mind before he gets hurt and make sure that, unlike Sid, he's not talked into anything like this:
Dave Says: Jericho throwing Shawn Michaels through the Jeri-Tron Best WWE.com Exclusive * Cryme Tyme’s “Word Up!” * The Miz and John Morrison present “The Dirt Sheet” * Santino’s Casa * Out-think the Fink I Say: I really am not all that into the WWE.com video shows. I've seen most of them at least once, but there really aren't any that I keep up with. With Michael Cole constantly mentioning that The Dirt Sheet is the top-rated webcast on WWE I am going to assume that they will win, but the WWE will probably have another show win to set-up a feud with Miz & Morrison. I'll stay with The Dirt Sheet. Dave Says: Santino's Casa.
Breakout Star of the Year * Kofi Kingston * Vladimir Koslov * Evan Bourne * Ted Dibiase I Say: Koslov should be the obvious choice since he was in the World Title/Main Event Mix after only a short time after making his in-ring debut, but Bourne seems to be getting marketed as once of the 'Fresh New Faces' of WWE so I will go with him/ Dave Says: Evan Bourne Best Musical Performance * R-Truth’s Entrance (Smackdown, Sept 15) * Santino rapping to Akon (RAW, Nov 17) * Edge singing “Heaven” to Vickie (Smackdown, Feb 15) * The Miz and John Morrison rap (The Dirt Sheet, Aug 29) I Say: I don't remember all that well Edge singing to Vicki, to call M&M's rap pathetic is an understatement and I really try to avoid anything having to do with R-Truth. That leaves Santino's rap so that's who I will pick. Dave Says:Santino's rap
Announce Team of the Year * Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole * Jim Ross and Tazz * Matt Striker and Todd Grisham I Say: I don't watch ECW or SD as much as RAW so it would be easy for me to say Cole and Lawler. I am going to go with Taz & J.R. since Ross is still WWE's premiere announcer. Dave Says: Lawler/Cole
Best Impersonation * Charlie Haas as “Haas” Hogan (RAW, Oct 13) * Charlie Haas as “CHL” (RAW, Sept 8) * Charlie Haas as “The Glamahass” (RAW, Oct 27) * Charlie Haas as Mr Perfect (RAW, Sept 22) I Say: Hands down I'll have to say CHL since it was the original and probably the best. Dave Says: “The Glamahass” I Said: Flair/ HBK, McCool, Cena's Return. Glamarella, Miz/Morrison, Hell's Gate, 'Taker's Fall Through Tables, Dirt Sheet, Bourne, Santino's Rap, Tazz & J.R., & CHL Dave Said: Edge/Taker, McCool, Mayweather/Big Show, Glamarella, Miz/Morrison, RKO, Michaels Face Through TV, Santino's Casa, Bourne, Santino's Rap, Cole & Lawler, & Glamahass
It has been brought to my attention that when I posted the Survivor Series results I mistakenly thought that Dave had picked Big Show to win the Casket Match against the Undertaker. I should have given Dave credit for predicting that match correctly since he picked the Undertaker. I have corrected the Survivor Series results post.
World Heavyweight Title Match Chris Jericho vs. John Cena Not really much to say here. Cena came out to a decent hometown pop and then went on to win the World Title by defeating Jericho after an F-U. Me: 1/1 Dave: 0/1
WWE Title Match Triple H vs. Vladimir Kozlov vs. Jeff Hardy At the start of the PPV Jim Ross and Taz informed the home viewers that, as reported earlier in the day on WWE.com, at 3 AM Jeff Hardy was found unconscious in the stairwell of his hotel in Boston. J.R. reported that WWE officials were investigating and that other media outlets, like ABC, CNN, and TMZ, have picked up the story. He also said that Hardy was questionable for the match. For the record, this whole thing was a work, and announcing this news did little more than take people's eye's off of their TVs and put them onto their computer screens looking for more information. The WWE undoubtedly did this to try to persuade on-the-fence fans to order the PPV to see what was going to happen. Anyways, the match - The match eas changed to a 1 on 1 with Trips and Kozlov. It looked like Trips was about to win when Vickie came out and said that the match was indeed going to be a Triple Threat match and then proceeded to start screaming 'He's Here! He's Here!'. Edge then came out, full beared, and speared Trips. Jeff Hardy then came out, attacked Edge, and started hitting people with a steel chair. Edge then speared him and pinned Triple H to win the WWE Title. I like Edge and all, but what's with all of his title wins out of nowhere?
Since this match wasn't anything like the way it was initially presented I am throwing this one out. Me: 1/1 Dave: 0/1 (although David was right about a title change)
Casket Match The Undertaker vs. Big Show Big Show destroyed the casket and tried leaving the ringside area only to be stopped by a wall of flames. The druids then came out with another casket. Big Show then stood it up, but UT ended up throwing Show into it, with the lid open, which caused it to fall down and have the lid slam shut with Show inside. 'Taker wins. Me: 2/2 Dave: 1/2
Team HBK vs. Team JBL, Traditional Elimination Match Shawn Michaels, Rey Mysterio, Cryme Tyme and The Great Khali vs. JBL, Kane, MVP, The Miz and John Morrison Rey, HBK, and Khali survived. Me: 3/3 Dave: 2/3
Team Batista vs. Team Orton, Traditional Elimination Match Batista, CM Punk, Kofi Kingston, Matt Hardy and R-Truth vs. Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, Shelton Benjamin, William Regal and Mark Henry Orton and Rhodes survived. Me: 4/4 Dave: 3/4
RAW Divas vs. SmackDown Divas, Traditional Elimination Match Beth Phoenix, Mickie James, Kelly Kelly, Candice Michelle and Jillian vs. Michelle McCool, Maria, Maryse, Victoria and Natalya If I recall correctly Beth Phoenix was the sole survivor. Me: 5/5 Dave: 3/5 I win with perfect picks! Dave did okay too with 3/5. wrestleblogger@yahoo.com
World Heavyweight Title Match Chris Jericho vs. John Cena I Say: The WWE loves to do certain things - That is to say they have become predictable when certain situations arise. Among those things is having a top superstar drop the title in his hometown or to have a superstar win the title in his hometown. Here we have the latter. Cena is returning from another injury and is being given an automatic title shot. I'm not sure if the WWE is going to give him the title, but he will win the match. This of course will set up a Jericho v. Cena feud leaving Batista and Orton to battle for a title shot down the road. Dave Says: This is a tough one. Survivor Series is one of the big PPV and a title change has a good possibility of occuring but I'm not sure they would throw it on Cena immediately after his return. Not sire if he has yet shaken off all the "ring rust". And maybe I wasn't completely paying attention but it didn't seem like the WWE was building up his return as much as they possibly could have particularly since he is in the main event. I'm going to give this one to Jericho but this is likely the start of a long feud.
WWE Title Match Triple H vs. Vladimir Kozlov vs. Jeff Hardy I Say: First off, Triple H is NOT going to drop the title to a relative newcomer in Kozlov and he is NOT going to drop the title to a guy who's one strike away from being fired (per WWE's Talent Wellness Policy). This is the match that I predicted for Cyber Sunday so I will keep the same pick and say that Trips wins Dave Says: You don't get to have the Heavy Weight title as many times as Triple H without dropping it a lot of time. Since I predicted that the other title would remain on the champ I predict this one will go to Kozlov if for only a brief period.
Casket Match The Undertaker vs. Big Show I Say: This one is easy. Undertaker wins this match. The WWE could get back on one of their swerve kicks and have Big Show win, but I'll stay with 'Taker. Dave Says: The Undertaker never loses a casket match and he wont lose one now.
Dave Says: I'm not going to devote any time to these so here goes.
Team HBK vs. Team JBL, Traditional Elimination Match Shawn Michaels, Rey Mysterio, Cryme Tyme and The Great Khali vs. JBL, Kane, MVP, The Miz and John Morrison I Say: I see Rey and HBK being the only survivors with JBL being the last of his team to be eliminated. Dave Says: Team HBK
Team Batista vs. Team Orton, Traditional Elimination Match Batista, CM Punk, Kofi Kingston, Matt Hardy and R-Truth vs. Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, Shelton Benjamin, William Regal and Mark Henry I Say: It will come down to Batista and Orton with Orton getting the win by cheating. Dave Says:Team Orton
RAW Divas vs. SmackDown Divas, Traditional Elimination Match Beth Phoenix, Mickie James, Kelly Kelly, Candice Michelle and Jillian vs. Michelle McCool, Maria, Maryse, Victoria and Natalya I Say: When it comes to Divas Smackdown seems to take a backseat to RAW and this match will follow that belief. Team RAW wins (No offense Maria). Dave Says: Team McCool
I Say: Cena, Triple H, Undertaker, Team HBK, Team Orton, and Team RAW. Dave Says: Jericho, Kozlov, Undertaker, Team HBK, Team Orton, and Team Smackdown. wrestleblogger@yahoo.com
World Heavyweight Championship Chris Jericho (c) v. Batista Special Guest Referee A: Randy Orton B: Shawn Michaels C: Steve Austin Austin won the vote by a HUGE margin. Towards the end of the match Batista speared Austin after Jericho moved out of the way. HBK then came down and became the ref and made the slowest count in wrestling history allowing Batista to kick out of a pin. Batista eventually went for the pin, but HBK was pulled out and clobbered by JBL so HBK count do the count. Randy Orton then came down and became the ref. Austin made it to his feet, gave Orton a Stunner and then went on to do a three count when Batista pinned Y2J to become the new World Champion. Me: 1/2 Dave: 1/2
Intercontinental Championship Santino Marella (c) v. TBD Marella's Opponent A: Roddy Piper B: Goldust C: Honky Tonk Man HTM won the voting and came to the ring. He cut a little promo on Santino and challenged Santino to a dancing contest of sorts. Once the match got started HTM won by DQ after Beth grabbed HTM's ankle as he was coming off of the ropes. Similar to what Dave said it eventually became a 3-on-1 after Goldust and Piper came down to the ring. Me: 2/4 Dave: 3/4
WWE Championship Triple H (c) v. TBD Triple H's Opponent A: Vladimir Kozlov B: Jeff Hardy C: Vladimir Kozlov & Jeff Hardy In A Triple Threat Match Hardy won the vote and lost. Not really a huge surprise. Me: 3/6 Dave: 4/6
ECW Championship Matt Hardy (c) v. TBD Matt Hardy's Opponent A: Mark Henry B: Evan Bourne C: Finlay Evan Bourne won by a big margin and the two of them put on a pretty good match - A lot of fast-paced action, but in a good way; not like that over-rehearsed WCW Lucha Libre crap. After numerous near-falls Hardy got the win. Me: 5/8 Dave: 4/8
Undertaker v. Big Show Match Type A: Knockout Match B: I Quit Match C: Last Man Standing Match Last Man Standing won the voting and Taker won after choking out Big Show with that Triangle Chokehold thing he does. Me: 7/10 Dave: 5/10
Kane v. Rey Mysterios Match Type A: Falls Count Anywhere B: No Holds Barred C: 2 out of 3 Falls I was right on both accounts. No Hold Barred won the vote and Rey Rey won the match. Me: 9/12 Dave: 6/12
Tag Team Match Participants A: William Regal and Layla v. Jamie Noble and Mickie James B: John Morrison and The Miz v. Cryme Tyme C: Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase (c) v. CM Punk and Kofi Kingston (for the World Tag Team Championship) The match chosen by the fans was Morrison and Miz v. Cryme Tyme. Miz & Morrison got the win. Me: 9/14 Dave: 8/14
United States Title Shelton Benjamin (c) v. TBD Benjamin's Opponent A: R-Truth/Ron Killings B: MVP C: Festus This match ended up taking place on WWE.com before the show. R-Truth won, but he lost to Shelton. Me: 10/16 Dave: 8/16
Diva Halloween Costume Contest [Some Costumes Have Already Been Announced] Winner (Fans Vote After Match With The Winner Announced Later In The Night) Beth Phoenix Brie Bella Candice Michelle (as Marilyn Monroe) Eve Torres Jillian Hall (as Batgirl) Kelly Kelly (as a sailor) Katie Lea (as a vampire) Layla Lena Yada Maria Maryse (as a french maid) Michelle McCool Mickie James Natalya Tiffany (as a nun) Victoria (as a banana) I'm not going to list all of the costumes, but Kelly Kelly let me down with her sailor costume. Mickie James turned out winning with her Lara Croft: Tomb Raider costume. I think that the voting for this match (and this match alone) was actually on the up-and-up. -This match didn't count towards our totals-
I did ok with 10/16 and Dave didn't do that bad either with 8/16, but I win! Sit Down David! Sit Down!
It's election time and that can only mean one thing in the WWE Universe (God, I hate how that phrase is so overused) - Cyber Sunday. That means that there are twice as many picks. One for the fan vote and one for the match. I will just copy and paste my intro from last year's Cyber Sunday PPV since it still applies.
"The WWE likes to say that the fans have the power for this PPV, but make no mistake about it - The whole voting thing is a load of crap. The worst enemy of wrestling and live TV in general is things not going according to plan. In other words, the WWE is not going to allow something that's not predetermined to happen at a PPV. If the fans really did have a legitimate impact on the PPV that would mean that the WWE writers would have to come up with 3 times as many ideas and match layouts. Most of the time it seems like the WWE writers can barely come up with 1. I not really going to believe the voting results. I am sure that the WWE already knows what the results are going to be."
Any opening comments Dave?
Dave Says: If there's one thing WWE fans are it's predictable so this should be an easy one.
World Heavyweight Championship Chris Jericho (c) v. Batista Special Guest Referee A: Randy Orton B: Shawn Michaels C: Steve Austin I Say: It's obvious that Austin is going to win the voting and will end the night giving Jericho and probably Batista a Stone Cold Stunner. I am going to say that Jericho retians the title and wins that match. Yes, Jericho will win. Dave Says: Oh, please.. Austin will win. He will stun Jericho causing him to win by DQ.
Intercontinental Championship Santino Marella (c) v. TBD Marella's Opponent A: Roddy Piper B: Goldust C: Honky Tonk Man I Say: I find it odd that the Honkey Donkey Man has announced that he will be at the arena considering that he has pretty much become anti-WWE since leaving the company. I wouldn't mind seeing either Goldendust or HDM win the vote, but I'm pretty sure that Rodney the Piper will win the vote since nobody really cares about Goldendust or Honkey Donkey Man anymore. Well,to be honest the fans that will likely make up a majority of the text message voting is young and chances are they don't really know that much about the HDM except for that pathetic run he had as Rock-A-Billy's manager. They also probably only remember Goldust from his last run where he had Tourettes and not when he came to the WWE where he was sexual controversial and basically an over-the-top homosexual crossdresser. So maybe it's not that they don't care, it's just that they don't really know. I am rooting for HDM though since Santino is chasing his record. As for the match match I think that Marella will retain the belt, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a DQ loss for him. Marella loses. I hope I'm wrong. Dave Says: I think Honky Tonk Man will win but Piper tends to be more of a fan favorite so it's a close call. A great ending would be Honky Tonk winning and then losing it quickly but HTM will probably get a beat down before Piper and Goldust come out and deliver a 3 on 1 slobber knocker.
WWE Championship Triple H (c) v. TBD Triple H's Opponent A: Vladimir Kozlov B: Jeff Hardy C: Vladimir Kozlov & Jeff Hardy In A Triple Threat Match I Say: This will be a Triple Threat match and I think that Trips will win...again. Dave Says: I don't watch Smackdown but I suspect Kozlov will win and then lose to HHH.
ECW Championship Matt Hardy (c) v. TBD Matt Hardy's Opponent A: Mark Henry B: Evan Bourne C: Finlay I Say: The fans seem to really be behind Evan Bourne and the WWE is probably trying to buil him up more so he will win the voting. He's still a little too new to the WWE to get a World Title though even if it is the ECW Title. Hardy wins. Dave Says: I'll go with Finley with Finley winning the title only because I don't have any other titles changing hands.
Undertaker v. Big Show Match Type A: Knockout Match B: I Quit Match C: Last Man Standing Match I Say: This will be a Last Man Standing match and 'Taker will win. It's that simple. Dave Says: Last man standing match with Big Show winning. May not be a good choice but Undertaker has been getting a few losses lately.
Kane v. Rey Mysterios Match Type A: Falls Count Anywhere B: No Holds Barred C: 2 out of 3 Falls I Say: This will be a No Holds Barred Match where Rey will pull out all of the stops (and weapons) to defeat the Big Red Monster. Dave Says: Got to be No Holds Barred and I'll give the victory to Kane even though it will undoubtedly be Mysterio.
Tag Team Match Participants A: William Regal and Layla v. Jamie Noble and Mickie James B: John Morrison and The Miz v. Cryme Tyme C: Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase (c) v. CM Punk and Kofi Kingston (for the World Tag Team Championship) I Say: This is a dangerous pick since if I don't get the voting right I automatically get the match wrong too. After that dreadful promo from Monday I can't pick B. I will pick Rhodes/DiBiase v. Punk/Kofi and say that Punk and Kofi win the belts. Dave Says: Morrison and Miz vs Cryme Tyme with M&M winning.
United States Title Shelton Benjamin (c) v. TBD Benjamin's Opponent A: R-Truth/Ron Killings B: MVP C: Festus I Say: R-Truth will win the voting. I am not an avid viewer of SD, but do the fans actually respond that well to him? I just don't see the appeal. He breakdances and....anyone? Can anyone explain what the hell else he does? Is he supposed to be some huge 'get' from TNA? From all accounts he was one of the biggest things on the indy scene in the late 90's and then when the WWE signed him he was a total letdown. Then he goes to the new upstart TNA and becomes one of TNA's first NWA Champions. Fast forward a little bit to him beginning to fizzle out when he was part of Team Pacman and what does the WWE do? The sign the guys. Mark my words. He won't last. There only a few TNA-built guys that can get over in the WWE. R-Truth isn't one of them. Neither was Monty Brown. Enough about him. Well, except for the fact that he's going to win. Dave Says: Again, I don't watch Smackdown so I'll go with MVP because he was sorta popular awhile back and I'll give the victory to MVP even thought TBD never wins.
Diva Halloween Costume Contest [Some Costumes Have Already Been Announced] Winner (Fans Vote After Match With The Winner Announced Later In The Night) Beth Phoenix Brie Bella Candice Michelle (as Marilyn Monroe) Eve Torres Jillian Hall (as Batgirl) Kelly Kelly (as a sailor) Katie Lea (as a vampire) Layla Lena Yada Maria Maryse (as a french maid) Michelle McCool Mickie James Natalya Tiffany (as a nun) Victoria (as a banana) I Say: I am hoping for one of my favorite Deevers. Maria or Kelly Kelly, to win, but that's not going to happen. McCool of Candice will win. I'll pick Candice, but I'm hpong for Kelly Kelly. What the hell....This pick isn't going to count anyways so I'll pick Kelly Kelly. Dave Says: Smelly Kelly will win.
I Picked: Austin/Jericho, Piper/Marella, Triple Threat/Triple H, Bourne/Matt Hardy, LMS/Undertaker, NHB/Rey, World Tag Team Championship/Punk & Kofi, R-Truth/R-Truth, Kelly Kelly.
Dave Picked: Austin/Jericho, Honky Tonk Man/Honkey Tonk Man, Kozlov/Triple H, Finlay/Finlay, LMS/Big Show, NHB/Kane, M&M v. Cryme Tyme/M&M, MVP/MVP, Kelly Kelly.
It looks like we agreed on some and disagreed on others; a good mix.
WWE Women's Championship Beth Phoenix (c) vs. Candice Michelle No surprise here. Beth wins. Me: 1/1 Dave: 1/2
WWE Championship Triple H (c) vs. Jeff Hardy It looked like Hardy was going to win. He escaped from a pedigree, hit the Twist of Fate and the Swanton Bomb. Hardy then went for the pin, but Triple H rolled Hardy over and got the pin. Me: 2/2 Dave: 2/2
Winner becomes the #1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Championship Batista vs. John "Bradshaw" Layfield A bit of a quick match considering that these are supposed to be 2 top-level guys. Batista got the pin. After the match a beaten JBL asked for the mic. He admitted that his heart wasn't in the match due to the trouble on Wall Street. He then thanked the crowd (American public) for the bailout and helping him keep all of his money and stay rich and everyone else having to work for the rich people - the way that it is supposed to be. A pretty good promo if you ask me. Me: 3/3 Dave: 3/3
World Heavyweight Championship Chris Jericho (c) vs. Shawn Michaels As expected the match of the night. As with most ladder matches, this one had all of the predictable spots and it was painfully obvious at times what spots were coming up next. Example - at one point Jericho was supposed to have the ladder land on top of him, but it didn't. Jericho then pulled the ladder on top of himself in time for HBK to drop an elbow on him. The ending was pretty good and wasn't like any end of a ladder match that I have seen. Jericho and HBK were having a tug-of-war with the belt at the top of the ladder. Jericho then, while still holding on to it, stopped pulling so HBK hit hismelf in the face with it fall of the ladder w/o the belt. Jericho wins. Me: 4/4 Dave: 4/4
ECW Championship Matt Hardy (c) vs. Mark Henry Hardy retains. Me: 4/5 Dave: 4/5
Big Show vs. The Undertaker Big Show wins after knocking 'Taker out with a punch to the face and then to the back of the head. Me: 4/6 Dave: 4/6
If Mysterio loses, he must remove his mask Rey wins by DQ after Kane, who was outside the ring, hit Rey like a baseball with a steel chair as Rey jumped off of the turnbuckle. Me: 5/7 Dave: 5/7
WWE Women's Championship Beth Phoenix (c) vs. Candice Michelle I Say: It's been said that the WWE has begun to see Michelle as an injury risk and don't think she can go for the long-term anymore. Because of that the WWE is probably looking to get the most out of her while they can. For that another title run would seem logical, but I think that the WWE would like to see her go a little longer before they put the title back on her. Phoenix wins. Dave Says: Phoenix
WWE Championship Triple H (c) vs. Jeff Hardy I Say: Triple H losing the title to Jeff Hardy? Not going to happen. The WWE Title is THE title in the industry. There is no other title in the entire world that is more prestigious as the WWE Title. I think it's pretty safe to say that Trips figure 'I'm letting this guy main event with me. Why should I drop my title to him?". Trips wins. Could there be win for Hardy w/o a title change? Sure. Dave Says: Triple H
Winner becomes the #1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Championship Batista vs. John "Bradshaw" Layfield I Say: I see Batista winning. Dave Says: Says: Batista
World Heavyweight Championship Chris Jericho (c) vs. Shawn Michaels I Say: This is THE match of the night. This may even be the match of the year. It's the culmination of WWE's feud of the year (Jericho himself said that this is the end) and perhaps their best feud in years. I think either guy has a decent chance of winning, but I think that Jericho is going to walk away with the title. Perhaps with Cade's help (BTW, the WWE is wasting their time trying to build up Cade to a top-level guy). Here's a longshot scenario - Kevin Nash helping Shawn win. It's no secret that Nash's contract with TNA has expired so don't be surprised to see the WWE pick him up and join Shawn in a non-wrestling role with a lighter schedule. It's a real longshot though. Also, interesting note - almost all of the Y2J/HBK feud has been scripted by Jericho and Michaels with very little if any input from the WWE creative team. Dave Says: Jericho
ECW Championship Matt Hardy (c) vs. Mark Henry I Say: Henry regain the title, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Hardy retain. To be honest I don't get to see ECW very often. Dave Says: Henry
Big Show vs. The Undertaker I Say: Undertaker wins. Help from Edge maybe? Dave Says: Undertaker
If Mysterio loses, he must remove his mask Kane vs. Rey Mysterio I Say: Rey Rey wins. Dave Says: Mysterio
