WWE 2007 Royal Rumble Results

WWE Title - Last Man Standing
Cena v. Umaga

Probably the best Cena I have seen in a long time if not ever. It turns out that there didn't have to be a pin or submission before the 10 count started. They just couldn't be of off their feet for an entire 10 count. Umaga laid Cena out on top of one of the announcers' tables and then proceded to run across the other two announce tables and try to splash Cena. Cena moved and Umaga laid there but was able to answer the 10 count. As Cena was in the ring waiting for Umaga to get up Estrada unscrewed the turnbuckle and detached it from the corner post forcing the top-rope on two sides of the ring to fall. Umaga then got the exposed turnbuckle hardware and tried to give Cena the Samoan Spike with it. Cena ducked and turned it into a FU. Cena then used the rope to choke Umaga in the STFU. Umaga then passed out and Cena released the hold to allow the 10 count to start. Umaga then completely no-sold the move and got up almost immediately after the ref started counting. Cena then reapplied the hold until Umaga passed out again. This time he didn't answer the 10 count. Cena wins and retains.
Me: 1/1
Dave: 1/1

World Title
Batista v. Kennedy

Basic Batista match with the basic Batista finish; Powerbomb & pin.
Me: 2/2
Dave: 2/2

ECW Title
Lashley v. Test
Test seemed to get frustrated and then went to the back and got counted-out intentionally.
Me: 3/3
Dave: 3/3

MNM v. Hardys

Not as good as I expected with these two teams. Still a solid match. Hardys win again.
Me: 3/4
Dave: 4/4 (Note: When I posted the predictions I noted that I didn't remember who Dave picked for this match so I made his pick the Hardys. Whether or not that is what he actually picked them isn't known to me. He gets credit anyways)

Royal Rumble
When the PPV started and I was reminded that the PPV was in San Antonio, Shawn Michael's hometown, I had the feeling that he would win. When it came time for #30 to come out Undertaker's music played and some old woman came out from the back. It took me a few seconds to realize it, but the person that I thought was an old woman turned out to be the Undertaker. I always seem to make that mistake. The last 4 men were 'Taker, HBK, Edge, & Orton. An RKO to HBK caused him to roll out of the ring and stay out there for a few minutes. 'Taker, Edge, & Orton then went at it for a while until Shawn re-entered the ring and quickly eliminated Edge and Orton ( There goes my picks ). 'Taker and HBK battled it out for a little bit and had a few near-eliminations. 'Taker then eliminated HBK to win the match and presumably go to WM23 to face Batista and capture the title for the final time, continue his undefeated streak, and likely retire sometime not so soon after. It looks like I should have gone with my original pick before I changed it to Edge & Orton as co-winners.
Me: 3/5
Dave: 4/5

Summary:
I got 3/5 right and Dave managed to better me by 1 pick with a total of 4/5.

WWE 2007 Royal Rumble Predictions

It's PPV time once again and that means it's prediction time. Let's get to the predictions without wasting any time.

WWE Title - Last Man Standing
Cena v. Umaga
I Say:
Obviously Cena is going to be coming out with the title. There is no RAW PPV before Wrestlemania and there is no way that Cena isn't going in with the title. I realize that Cena could lose the title and then regain it before WM, but the WWE rarely makes a world title change on a non-PPV show unless it's an emergency (i.e. RVD's drug posession arrest). I assume that you can only win by having your opponent not be able to answer a 10 count that there would be no DQ's or countout. Otherwise I would pick Umaga to get the DQ or countout win so he doesn't lose momentum. Therefore I have to say that Cena gets the win eventhough I think that having the match end in a draw (by having both men unable to answer a 10 count) wouldn't harm either guy too much, but I don't think that's possible since the 10 count has to be answered once a wrestler is pinned or made to submit.
David Says: Cena gets the win

World Title
Batista v. Kennedy
I Say:
I would like to see Kennedy pick up the win and the title, but the WWE probably thinks that he's still a little to new to carry the belt. I'll have to pick Batista gets the win. Perhaps by DQ when Undertaker interferes since there seems to be a rift developing between them on SD.
David Says: Batista wins

ECW Title
Lashley v. Test
I Say:
I really hope that Test doesn't get the belt. I'm going to pick Lashley to get the win.
David: I agree with the Mysterious J. Lashley will win.

MNM v. Hardys
I Say:
I really think that MNM should be put back together permanently. I hope they get the win, but the Hardys always seem to pull through. I'll pick MNM anyways.
David Says: (Note from Mysterious J: I don't remember what David picked. I'll guess and say he picked the Hardys)

Royal Rumble
I Say:
I'm not clear as to what the title picture is for any of the belts for Wrestlemania. Because of that I was just going to pick Undertaker to win since there are rumors of a 'Taker v. Batista match @ WM and that's the only WM title match that I have heard anything about. I've changed my mind though. Here is my prediction - The last 3 men in the ring will be Edge, Orton, and HBK. I am pretty certain that at least one of these men will win the match. Edge & Orton will eliminate HBK. While I think that if only one of them would win it would be Edge, I am going very far out on a limb and saying that they will both win; They'll both go over the top rope at the same time. Yeah, I know that the WWE has done this ending a few times before, but the WWE has repeated angles before and I think this time will be no different. Then look for a possible 3-way @ WM unless they have a #1 contenders match before then to determine who get's a shot @ Cena. In the extremely unlikely chance that a Smackdown or ECW wrestler wins it will be Undertaker for SD and RVD for ECW, but I don't think it's going to happen.
David Says: Shawn Michaels

WWE New Years Revolution PPV Results

WWE Intercontinental Championship - Steel Cage Match
Jeff Hardy (c) vs. Johnny Nitro.
Not as many big spots as I thought I'd see. A pretty good match though. Ending came when Nitro climbed over the cage and while still holding onto the outside tried holding the door shut to prevent Hardy from escaping. Hardy kicked the door and Nitro ended up stradling the top of the door enabling Jeff to escape for the win.
Me: 1/1
David: 0/1

WWE Women's Championship Match
Mickie James (c) vs. Victoria.

At one point it looked like Victoria would get the win after Melina interfered on her behalf. Then a couple of Victoria's recent victims, Maria & Candice, came down to even the odds. Mickie went on to get the pin.
Me: 2/2
David: 0/2

Ric Flair vs. Kenny Dykstra.
After a nutshot to Flair that the ref didn't see Kenny rolled Flair up for a third straight win over the Nature Boy
Me: 3/3
David: 1/3

Carlito vs. Chris Masters.

Masters got the win after pinning Carlito while holding the tights.
Me: 3/4
David: 1/4

Tag Team Championship
D-Generation X vs. World Tag Team Champions Rated RKO.

A pretty good match. The end came when HBK decked the referee and then he and HHH grabbed a couple of chairs and beat down Rated RKO repeatedly until they were both bloodied. They then tried putting them both through the announce tables. There was no announced decision. Although the ref probably would have DQ'd DX if he ever came to. I'm throwing this match out though. Me: 3/4
David: 1/4

WWE Championship Match
John Cena (c) vs. Umaga.

The booking for this match was pretty good. Umaga got a surprising majority of the offense. Umaga easily had Cena at a disadvantage...except for the end. Out of nowhere Cena kicked Umaga in the face and then scored the pinfall after a rollup. Somehow I figured that it would be Cena that ended Umaga's streak of never being pinned or made to submit.
Me: 3/5
David: 2/5

Eugene v. Hacksaw Duggan

This match didn't take place.
Me: 3/5
David: 2/5

Tag Turmoil Match
This match was announced as being a bonus match. Two tag teams started out and once one of them is defeated another team joins the match. Once I heard that the match was a Tag Team Turmoil match to determine the #1 contenders I knew that Cryme Tyme would win and I was right. I'm giving myself credit for this one. The other teams in the match were The Highlanders, Haas & Benjamin, Cade & Murdoch, and Hacksaw and Super Crazy. Me: 4/6
David: 2/5

Summary

I predicted 4/6 correct while David got 2/5.

WWE New Years Revolution Predictions

It's a new year and that can only mean 1 thing - It's time for WWE's New Years Revolution and the Wrestleblogger predictions that go along with it. Last year I picked 3/6 matches correctly, but David edged me out by picking 4/6 matches correctly. Speaking of David, it looks like he has decided to once again present his predictions as well. Whether he sticks around is another story. Also, if my memory serves me correctly this marks the first time that the WWE has returned to the Kemper Arena for a PPV since Owen Hart's death there.

On to the picks...

WWE Intercontinental Championship - Steel Cage Match
Jeff Hardy (c) vs. Johnny Nitro.
I Say:
Nitro reminds me of a young Shawn Michaels. Not the Shawn Michaels from the Rockers, but from when he went solo and began as the Heartbreak Kid (as far as cockiness goes). His in-ring work is excellent, but still needs to work on his mic skills. He also needs to work on his ring psychology so his matches (especially versus Jeff Hardy) don't look like just a succession of moves. As for this match - I wouldn't be surprised to see Nitro regain the title here since they have been trading the belt back and forth, I am going to say that Hardy retains. I expect to see Hardy and/or Nitro do their respective top-rope moves from the top of the cage. I also expect to see Matt Hardy and Mercury get involved.
David Says: Hard to believe that Johnny Nitro was a Tough Enough contestant. He has REALLY come a long way. Good for him. I give him the win over Hardy because I've never had much love for Jeff. And the winner is... Mr. Milena... Johnny Nitro.

WWE Women's Championship Match
Mickie James (c) vs. Victoria.
I Say:
The Women's Title has become a little meaningless so it really doesn't make a difference who wins. Victoria has been going through the women as of late so it wouldn't surprise me to see her pick up the title, but I'll go with Mickie to keep it.
David Says: Victoria wins... and I don't care.

Ric Flair vs. Kenny Dykstra.
I Say:
I really want to say that Flair will get some sort of revenge and show Kenny why he's the dirtiest player in the game, but I have to pick Kenny to get a third win over Flair. The chairshots from this past Monday will be played up as a reason that Flair didn't win.
David Says: Well, we already had the passing of the torch. So maybe this will be the official PPV passing of the torch. Kenny wins but I'm not so sure on this one.

Carlito vs. Chris Masters.
I Say:
This match is a throwaway. Carlito has been buried as of late and the Masters' whole Masterlock Challenge gimmick was ruined when they had that soldier break it in Iraq. I have nothing against soldiers, but the Masterlock Challenge was probably the only thing that got the fans interested in him and now it's done not to mention that there was no buildup. I've read that Masters in on his way off of RAW because he's seen as a bit of a joke since he failed a steroids test and lost some size. That's a shame though. Vince has always been notorious for favoring size over actual ability (i.e. Khali) and for him to look down on Masters now looks very hypocritical since the steroids undoubtedly gave him the look that Vince likes. Same thing goes for Triple H. For him to take shots at and make jokes about Masters on national TV makes no sense since Triple H (and Vince) is obviously on some sort of 'additive' that gives him unrealistic size. The only difference is that Masters got caught and Triple H is the boss' son-in-law. Masters should do what Scott Steiner did and demand that Triple H takes a steroids test when he (Masters) is asked to. That may get Masters released so it may not be such a great idea after all. As for this match, I'll pick Carlito since Masters may be getting jobbed out. I would really like to see a Torrie heel turn in this match.
David Says: Chris Masters is back on the juice and livin' large. Carlito has never been the same since he left Smackdown. To bad. I give the win to Carlito because Masters is a soup can.

Tag Team Championship
D-Generation X vs. World Tag Team Champions Rated RKO.
I Say:
I said that when Rated RKO won the tag titles that it was only so DX could eventually get them. That was before I found out that the reason that Rated RKO won the belts was because Piper had a medical emergency and couldn't stick around, but I still feel that DX will be getting the belts. As much as I would like to be wrong in this situation and as much as I think that Team RKO should get the win I am going to say that DX wins. Whether it be by pin, submission, or DQ.
David Says: Poor Edge and Orton. Feuding with DX is bad news for anyone's career. It's not just that you have to job it's that you have to be humiliated by DX's asinine antics. It's fun with the McMahon's because Vince's character is sort of a silly cartoon. DX will probably get the title. DX will win... again.

WWE Championship Match
John Cena (c) vs. Umaga.
I Say:
SInce it's a no-brainer that Cena and Umaga will likely have another match @ Royal Rumble. I will go very far out on a very long limb and pick Umaga to win. Yes, Umaga will beat Cena. Will it be for the title? I doubt it. It will probably be in the form of Cena getting DQ'd or Umaga destroying Cena outside of the ring leading to a Cena countout (or maybe a double-countout).
David Says: Umaga as the champ? Nah. Monsters are rarely champs. Kane won it but couldn't keep it for more than 24 hours. 'Course Umaga could win it and then immediately lose it. Cena will win... again. I much preferred the Cena/Edge feud. The only thing that would have made the feud better would be one WITHOUT Cena. Cena sucks.

Eugene v. Hacksaw Duggan
I Say:
This match is a no brainer. I literally mean without a brain. Both of these guys' gimmicks are those of being retarded. It's the new retard v. the old retard. My pick is Eugene. I hope he uses his retard strength and destroys Duggan. I want to see Eugene break the 2x4 across Duggan's face.
David Says: I'll go with Eugene.

Summary
I Say:
Hardy, Mickie, Kenny, Carlito, DX, Umaga, & Eugene
David Says: Nitro, Victoria, Kenny, DX, Carlito, Cena, & Eugene
