Waiting For Further Instructions
What was the point having Batista squash Burchill? I thought they were trying to build Burchill up? Also, did they not have a way to incorporate Batista into the show so they just had him squash Burchill?
I didn't understand the brief appearance of 'Primo' Colon. Is this part of an angle?
I'm all for creating new concept matches (sometimes!), but that whole 'Championship Scramble' seems a little TNA-like - and that's not a good thing. It would appear that having a match where the World Championship could change hands multiple times only lends itself to allowing the hype to consist of nonstop mentions that 'The World Heavyweight Championship can change hands multiple times and C.M. Punk doesn't have to be pinned to lose the title, etc. Not to mention padding stats. And why only 20 minutes? Why not at least 30?
Shawn Michaels wife looked like she had a legit fat lip on the video they showed from Summerslam, but I doubt she had a broken jaw as Cole was speculating.
Did I miss something. How did the Santino/D-Lo match end with no decision when Kofi attacks Santino right in front of the referee? Shouldn't that be a DQ win for Santino?
I could have predicted that Jericho would beat Punk on Raw. It was a non-title match and as we all know, the champion always loses non-title matches.
Summerslam 2008 Results
Mark Henry vs Matt Hardy
Maybe they were short on time, but this was a really short match. The bell rang, I had a sip of beer and when I looked up the ref called for the bell after Tony Atlas attacked Hardy leading to the DQ.
Dave: 0/1
Me: 0/1
Triple H vs The Great Khali
Trips wins.
Dave: 1/2
Me: 1/2
The Undertaker vs Edge
I was a little confused during the ring entrances. This old red-haired woman came out, but then I realized it was
Undertaker (That joke NEVER gets old). Undertaker dominated for most of the match. At one point Edge shoulderblocked/speared 'Taker through the side of the cage. End came after 'Taker powerbombed Edge through 2 tables and gave him a tombstone. After the match Undertaker walked towards the back, but stopped short of going through the curtain. He then went back into the ring, propped Edge up on a ladder, put up another ladder, climbed it and chokeslammed Edge through the mat. The hole that Edge went through started shooting flames out of it.
Dave: 2/3
Me: 2/3
John Cena vs Batista
Huge surprise - Batista won. I should have gone with my instinct that told me that the WWE would try a swerve and do a Batista win.
Dave: 2/4
Me: 2/4
Kingston/James vs Marella/Phoenix
Beth seemed to do most of the work (as I predicted), but not enough that it would look obvious enough to turn into an angle, but they may still go with it. Phoenix got the pin on Mickie. After the match Glamarella left with Santino holding up both belts while sitting on Beth's shoulders.
Dave: 2/5
Me: 3/5
CM Punk vs John "Bradshaw" Layfield
Punk won after the Go To Sleep.
Dave: 2/6
Me: 4/6
Jeff Hardy vs MVP
Earlier in the afternoon I read that Hardy was pretty banged up and may have even had a slightly broken neck. I was going to change my pick, but decided to just leave it the way it was. I should have changed it. MVP got the W-I-N.
Dave: 2/7
Me: 4/7
I got a decent, but non-impressive 4/7 while Dave only got 2 out of 7. Sit Down Dave. Sit Down!!
One other segment - Shawn Michaels was scheduled to make an announcement as to what his future holds. HBK and his wife came down and got in the ring. Shawn then said that all of his injuries, included his eye, led to his doctor recommending that he retire. Shawn then said that he was going to heed his doctor's advice. He then talked about his legacy and career and that he had no regrets. Jericho then cam down and refused to let Shawn pretend that he was retiring on his own terms and that he needs to admit that it was him (Y2J) that is making him retire. Jericho then said that he (Shawn) needs to sit his kids down and tell them that Jericho made him retire. Shawn then agreed and said that he would tell his kids that a selfless human being made retire, but Jericho would have to tell his own kids that he (Y2J) will never ever be Shawn Michaels. Jericho didn't like that so he took a swing at Michaels who ducked leading to Jericho punching HBK's wife in the face. Michaels then tended to his wife as Jericho made hi way to the back.

Summerslam 2008 Predictions
I will make this really quick, but first some opening comments from Dave.
Dave: I don't watch ECW or Smackdown and I've missed all but one RAW for the past month so these picks are being done on a wing and a prayer.
Mark Henry vs Matt Hardy
Dave says: Mark Henry
I Say: When it comes to the ECW Title anything can happen. I'll say that Henry wins.
Triple H vs The Great Khali
Dave Says: I continue to be shocked that The Great Khali is still in the WWF. This could end up being a DQ but there is no way Khali will win the title. I suspect that we wont have a clean finish and I'm sure the sledge hammer will make an appearance but if there is a winner it will be trips.
I Say: Another giant for Trips to beat. Trips wins.
The Undertaker vs Edge
Dave Say: It's possible Edge could win but I won't see it happening. No title is on the line so Undertaker is almost a shoe in. Undertaker wins.
I Say: Undertaker in a Hell In A Cell Match? Looks like a no-brainer. I think Edge has a pretty decent chance to win. I'll say 'Taker though.
John Cena vs Batista
Dave Say: If this were a smaller PPV I would have bet on Batista but in this case I have to go with Cena.
I Say: With Cena winning that WWE Mobile poll on Raw by close to a 3-to-1 margin I think that the recently 'suprise happy' WWE could have a Batista win, but I'll go with Cena.
Kingston/James vs Marella/Phoenix
Dave Say: This is your five gold star lock of the evening. Maralle is a clown and a jobber. I think he's a great talent but he never wins unless Phoenix gets the pin. Kingston and James win.
I Say: This angle could go one of two ways - A Glamarella loss leading to a fully-fledged between the two or Beth dominating the match and carrying the team to victory with Marella acting like he deserves all the credit. I'll go with the more of a longshot choice -- The latter.
CM Punk vs John "Bradshaw" Layfield
Dave Says: I'm going to give the win to Layfield because I don't have any other titles changing hands in this PPV and it is one of the bigger PPV's.
I Say: Punks wins, but I'm not sure.
Jeff Hardy vs MVP
Dave Says: Does MVP never tire of the Hardy boys. Jeff almost always wins and he'll win here.
I Say: Hardy wins.
