WWE Unforgiven Predictions

I went back and added up the results of all of the WrestleBlogger predictions that David and myself have done (not including Armageddon) and here are the results. David leads PPVs won with a record of 6-5-1. I, however, lead in overall matches with 42/80 correct compared to David's 39/79. The reason that I have 80 guesses compared to David's 79 is because of all of the last minute changes to the Great American Bash. I was surprised that we each were only around 50% correct. I'm pretty sure that a monkey could have done better. Now it's time for Unforgiven. I can either expand my tiny lead or David can close the gap. Let's see what happens...
WWE Championship
Edge (C) v. John Cena
I Say: Do you love Cena? I mean do you REALLY love Cena? Do you love F-U's and STFUs and 'roided out freaks and people who wave their hand in front of their faces? If so this is the match for you. With that out of the way, Unforgiven is in Edge's hometown of Toronto. Need I say more? Cena will obviously win. I hope he loses though. There is no way that WWE's top draw is going to leave WWE's top show. I would like to see him go though. Perhaps a feud with Batista so they can destroy each other. I think that WWE needs to keep the belt on Edge and really establish him as a top-level guy and not some guy who holds the belt between Cena's title runs. I hope that if Cena does win it will be by DQ so Edge can keep the belt, but I'm sure that's asking for too much. Cena has that movie to promote and I'm sure that WWE wants him to do press with the belt. I think Cena will win and then go on to feud with Orton. On the other hand the Cena/Edge feud may still go on, but the feud is getting very old.
David Says: I went back over every singles match w/Cena that I've predicted and won 60% of the time by always picking Cena to win. At first it was working quite well until Edge got two straight victories over the wrestling gorilla. Believe it or not the first match I predicted for Cena was a victory over Edge way back in January. this time I'm going to make an unprecidented Cena victory by DQ. Therefore Cena will win (as I always predict) but he will not win the title. On a related note my theory of always picking Mysterio has also clearly run out.
Intercontinental Title
Johnny Nitro (C) v. Jeff Hardy
I Say: Even though Hardy has a history with the WWE I think of him as a newbie who needs to re-pay his dues. It's way too early to put the belt on him. I'm always against putting titles on new guys. It's a slap in the face to the guys who have busted their asses. I was especially against it when they did it will Carlito.....twice. His first day on Smackdown he won the US Title and his first night after being drafted to RAW he got the IC title. Therefore I can't see Nitro losing the belt to Hardy @ this moment in time. Could he still lose the match and not the belt? Sure. I really want to pick Hardy to win by DQ, but I'll say that Nitro wins. Not cleanly though. The feud should be continuing.
David Says: Let me just say that I have never been a fan of Jeff Hardy as a singles wrestler. Couple of weeks ago Johnny Nitro got the opportunity to shoot a promo and it was really quite.... mediocre. I see Nitro keeping the title for now but this is a close one. The intercontinental title tends to change hands often and there is some fan interest in Jeff Hardy. C'mon WWE, keep the title on Nitro.
Women's Title
Lita (C) v. Trish
I Say: Ok, Let's see. A Canadian wrestler loyal to the company who is about to leave the company and wrestling on home turf. Where have I seen this scenario before? Oh Yeah, back in late 1997. That's right - I wouldn't be surprised to see a worked screwjob, but Vince has nothing to do with the storyline so I'll throw out the chances of that. Lita is also rumored to be leaving the company soon as well since her contract is said to be up soon. It's been about two and a half years since there's been a match where both participants were on their way out of the company - Goldberg & Brock Lesnar. Back then the WWE chose to give the win to the man who was leaving on good terms Goldberg. I can't use that match for reference though since both Lita and Trish are leaving on good terms. I think that it would be a nice touch to reward Trish with a win in her last match in her hometown, but I'm not sure that the WWE would go that way. No matter what happens I can't see Trish getting the belt. Lita will eventually lose the belt to Mickie. I think Trish will be a professional and 'do the honors' as they say and do the j.o.b. on the way out even if it is her hometown.
David Says: Well, you can't give Trish the championship in her last match and there's certainly no reason to push her anymore. Lita can't possibly lose unless by DQ. Lita will win and Trish will give a short bye bye speech and then fade off into the land of direct to video movies.
Tag Team Titles
Spirit Squad (C) v. Highlanders
I Say: This match is too easy to pick. Highlanders will pick up the titles. I suspect that the rumors of the S. Squad breaking up will come to fruition here. I hope that they have a storyline for them instead of sending them to OVW or DSW. Actually Kenny, Mikey, and Johnny look to be at a level where they can stay on RAW. Mitch & Nicky haven't had as much ring time on TV so they may not be ready yet.
David Says: Unlike the Mysterious 'J' I find the Spirit Squad insufferably boring so I'm going with my heart on this one and picking the Highlanders as the next Tag Team Champs. They are just about the only legitimate tag team in the WWE.
Kane v. Umaga
I Say: It's been no secret that Kane is looking to wind his career down and is willing to put over the guys who will be sticking around. For that reason I am picking Umaga to win.
David Says: At some point every wrestlers undefeated streak must come to an end. If not Kane then who? This is a tough one. I think I have to give this one to Kane in order to move the feud forward.
Randy Orton v. Carlito
I Say: Carlito's career has been slipping for some time and I can't see him reversing his luck against Orton. Orton need to win to keep him as a main-event level guy. He's the company's top heel after Edge and he needs to stay near the top. Carlito may start rising again, but it's not happening here.
David Says: I've done pretty well picking Carlito as the winner in the past but I've done pretty badly picking against Orton. Orton is still the bigger star and if this is going to be a feud the heel needs to get in a few wins. I'm picking the Legend Killer.
Hell In A Cell Handicap Match
Vince, Shane, & Big Show v. DX
I Say: Considering Triple H's history in HiaC matches I really want to pick DX to win. He is 4-2 with one of his losses to Kurt Angle in a match which also included Austin, Rock, 'Taker, and Rikishi. The last HiaC match that he was in was against World Champion Batista and he lost. Add to that the fact that DX was laid out this past Monday and I really want to pick DX to win, but I just can't see DX continuing their PPV winning streak. I have to pick Vince, Shane, and Big Show to win. I fully expect Shane (or HBK to a lesser extent) to take a big bump; Nothing like Foley though. I doubt DX will break-up as a result of this match, but I think that they may take some time off. I'll probably change my mind sometime between now and the PPV, but I'll stick with DX to lose for now.
David Says: The Big Show is in the midst of his biggest push since his early days in WCW when he was invincible. I have picked DX in both previous PPV's and came up aces each time but this is a smaller event and DX already got a victory over Big Show on ECW. I'm gonna go with a McMahon/Big Show victory despite the ass whooping HHH received on RAW.
Summary:
I Say: Cena, Nitro, Lita, Higlanders, Umaga, Orton, and McMahons/DX.
David Says: Cena, Nitro, Lita, Highlanders, Kane, Orton, and McMahons/DX
Are you F'n kidding me? Kane & Umaga is going to decide who gets more predictions right? The one throwaway match is the one that is going to make the difference? Maybe I'll reconsider some of my picks over the weekend.
