WWE Great American Bash 2007 Results

Singapore Cane Match
Sandman vs. Carlito
This match was probably the worst match of the night. The ending came when Sandman finally got the cane down from the pole and took a swing at Carlito. Carlito ducked and hit Sandman with the Backcracker and the pin. Nobody even got hit win the cane.
Me: 0/1
David: 1/1

Cruiserweight Open
Chavo Guerrero (c) vs. Jimmy Wang Yang vs. Jamie Noble vs. Funaki vs. Sahannon Moore
Even before the match started I figured that Chavo wasn't going to retain the title. He is scheduled to feud with Rey when Rey comes back and I'm pretty sure that the WWE feels that the Cruiserweight Title is beneath him (Rey). Although I never updated my predictions I went with the same guy as I did last month - Jimmy Wang Yang. Before the match started Hornswoggle crawled out from under the ring and jumped into the ring. He soon retreated back under the ring once the bell rang though. This match was actually pretty good. Noble and Yang particularly are a lot more talented than their position on the card would lead someone to believe. Ending came when all 5 guys were laid out. Hornswoggle came out form under the ring and hit Noble with a Tadpole Splash. After looking confused for a few seconds the referee did the 3 count. Hornswoggle is the new Cruiserweight Champion. Although he wasn't scheduled to be part of the match since he was in the ring when the bell rang he became an official participant - Or at least that's how Michale Cole explianed it.
Me: 0/2
David: Did Not Pick 1/1

WWE United States Championship
Montel Vontavious Porter (c) vs. Matt Hardy
The announcers were really hyping up Hardy as if he truly had a shot at winning. They were wrong. Dave and myself were right though. MVP retains.
Me: 1/3
David: 2/2

WWE Women's Championship
Candice Michelle (c) vs. Melina
I've said it many times before. Candice continues to impress. She defeated Melina, a.k.a. Dave's honey, after hitting her with a standing Bulldog which she calls the Candy Wrapper.
Me: 2/4
David: 2/3

After the Candice/Melina match Matt Hardy was shown in the back talking to Jeff. He told Jeff that he needed to keep his focus during the match or else he would lose like he (Matt) did to MVP. Candice then was shown coming back from her match and started pouring water all over herself as the Hardys stood there with their jaws hanging open. The whole thing was a little cheesy since they showed Candice pouring the water on herself in slo-motion, but showed the the Hardys in full speed. As the Hardys were standing there stunned Farooq came into the frame and said 'Sheee-It'...I mean 'Damn!'.

WWE Intercontinental Championship
Umaga (c) vs. Jeff Hardy
A good match. I actually tought that Hardy would win. I was wrong though. After that running ass slam and the Samoan Spike Umaga got the pinfall to retain the IC Title. The ending looked a little rushed. Umaga looked like he was in a hurry to end the match. Maybe he had to take a crap or something.
Me: 2/5
David: 3/4

Texas Bullrope Match
Randy Orton vs. Dusty Rhodes
The match started off with a few spots where Rhodes was yanking Orton around with the bullrope. It turns out that the only way to win was by pinfall or submission. Orton clocked Rhodes with the cowbell and scored the pinfall. He then went to kick Rhodes in the head, but Cody made the save. I was hoping that Cody would turn on his father, but no such luck. There was no blood in this match which was a big surprise.
Me: 3/6
David: 4/5

ECW World Championship
John Morrison (c) vs. CM Punk
A good match. The ending came out of nowhere though. Punk jumped off of the ropes only to have Morrison kick him in the leg and then score the pinfall. Maybe the WWE didn't know how to finish the match. They should have gone with my prediction and had Morrison get DQ'd leading to an Extreme Rules rematch at Summerslam.
Me: 3/7
David: 5/6

World Heavyweight Championship
The Great Khali (c) vs. Kane vs. Batista
3 Very slow guys. Khali was dominant for a lot of the match. Towards the end Kane and Batista put Khali through the ECW announcers' table. Khali eventually made his way back into the ring and won after a 2-handed Chokeslam onto Kane. I guess that way Batista doesn't look bad going into his presumed feud with Khali going into Summerslam.
Me: 4/8
David: 5/7

WWE Championship
John Cena (c) vs. Bobby Lashley
I'm not going to go into all of the details, but I should have picked Cena. He always wins as he did here. Also, over the weekend I saw a TV commercial advertising an upcoming local event where Cena would be defending the WWE Title against Orton. He gave Lashley the F-U from the top rope and then got the pin. I was expecting a Lashley hell turn after the match like the WWE has been testing out on house shows, but the two of them just shook hands to end the PPV.
Me: 4/9
David: 6/8

Total
I did pretty bad at 4/9 while Dave, who had very little confidence in his picks, got 75% with 6/8 picks right. I think that Dave may have been playing possum.

Since this was the first WWE PPV since the whole Benoit situation I was curious to see if there would be any Benoit-related signs. I had read that the WWE was being very vigilant in taking taking Benoit signs away from the crowds recently. I was convinced that at least a couple would have made it onto TV. I only saw one though. It said 'The Taskmaster Did It'.

Also, during the PPV King Book-ah made an appearance and once again proclaimed that Triple H was not the 'King of Kings'. He also again commanded Jerry Lawler, whom he called Jerome, to stop calling himself a king and to lay his crown and Book-ah's feet. Lawler refused and Book'ah called Lawler treasonous and left. I suspect that the angle will continue tonight.

WWE Great American Bash Predictions 2007

Yes Folks, it's once again PPV time and that means that it's once again time for Wrestleblogger Prediction. As you have come to expect I, the Mysterious J, along with the Not-So-Mysterious Dave are going to serve up our picks for the matches. This time it's the Great American Bash. I'll be honest and tell everyone that I have very low expectations for this PPV. Is there potential for a couple of good matches? Yes, but am I holding out hope? Nope. Let's just get this over with and go to the picks.

WWE Championship
John Cena (c) vs. Bobby Lashley
I Say: What's with all of the hype (especially Monday) for this match? I've seen Wrestlemania main events that haven't been hyped as much. Why is it that whomever Cena faces is his 'toughest opponent yet'? And why is every WWE Title match billed as one of the biggest matches in the history of the industry? Can someone answer even one of those F*cking questions for me? They are really building Lashley up as a Cena-level guy which he's not. I rip on Cena a lot, with good reason, but he is by far more of a complete professional wreslter that Lashley is or probably ever will be. Could Cena's moveset stand a little improvement? Yes, but he is far more complete than Lashley. One of the most hyped aspects of Lashley is his amateur background. I don't recall him doing a lot of technical moves though. He's all power moves. I am going to go far out on a limb and say that the WWE will take the belt off of Cena so he can be chasing the belt going into Summerslam. I've said it before and I'll say it again - There's more business in having an uber-babyface chasing the title. Especially going into one of the big 4. Lashley wins, but I see a chance of a draw to keep the feud going into Summerslam.
Dave Says: Nothing like two super muscular freaks to get the world to forget about Chris Benoit. Whoops. I'm going to go with Cena but it's probably going to be a lengthy feud.

ECW World Championship
John Morrison (c) vs. CM Punk
I Say: I think taht the whole Nitro name change is pretty lame. Especially since he said that he was born with the name Morrison. It would be one thing if he came out and said that he was taking on the Morrison name as a tribute to the charismatic lead singer of The Doors, but don't claim that it's your real name. I will concede that John Morrison looks remarkably like Jim though. I may have said it before, but I think that Punk is the next ECW Champ and as I stated in the WWE Title match prediction above - There's more business in having a babyface chase the belt going into a big PPV. I am going to say that Nitro, Yes I called him that, will get DQ'd. Punk will win and then the rematch at Summerslam will be an Extreme Rules match.
Dave Says: Not sure about this new gimmick but whatever. I'm going to go with Mr. Morrison. You can tell all the people that Mr. Morrison is gonna break on through in an easy ride.

World Heavyweight Championship
The Great Khali (c) vs. Kane vs. Batista
I Say: Maybe the World Title is cursed [Note: I wrote up these predictions before the WWE posted an article on WWE.com pondering whether the World Title is indeed cursed]. 'Taker gets the belt to begin what was intended to be a long title run only to get injured. Kennedy who likely would have won the belt due to 'Taker's injury (using his MiTB shot) got injured himself. Kennedy then had to drop the MiTB title shot to Edge who uses it to win the title. Now Edge gets injured and has to vacate the belt. Not to mention Batista having to surrender the title a year or two back when he tore his lat muscle, although it happened while feuding with Mark Henry which in itself is a curse. I'll make this short and sweet. I seriously doubt that the WWE is going to have Khali hold the belt for 2 (kayfabe) days. Khali will leave G.A.B. with the belt. Could he lose by DQ or something? Sure. I'll once again say that there's more business in having the babyface (Batista) chase the belt. I'll just say that Khali wins.
Dave Says: Batista will win. He is the natural champion when Edge doesn't have the belt.

Texas Bullrope Match
Randy Orton vs. Dusty Rhodes
I Say: Orton is the legend killer, but didn't he kill Rhodes already? Orton is not going to do the J-O-B on the P-P-V. Orton defeats Rhodes and tried to put him out of his misery like he did to the R-V-D and the H-B-K only to have Cody make the save. My only reservation in picking Orton is whether or not he can drag that fat tub or sh*t to all 4 corners - assuming that that's the way victory is acheived. Maybe it's just me, but I think that Dusty needs to talk to Cody about getting into better shape and give him some workout tips. He (Cody) looks like he is letting himself go.
Dave Says: Oh Lord. My biggest question is what will Dusty Rhodes wear in the ring. He's never been particularly shy about his weight but I can only imagine the train wreck that must be be going on under that jacket. Wrestlers tend to have the advantage in their own signiture gimmick matches but here is my prediction. Dusty has to pay back Vince for getting his son a match on national TV and the payment is an ass kicking by Randy Orton. I see Rhodes juicing big time and losing big time.

WWE Women's Championship
Candice Michelle (c) vs. Melina
I Say: I am writing my predictions before I have received Dave's, but I'm pretty sure I know who he will pick. How many times are these two going to have matches? Are they going to have 20 title matches since they had 20 non-title matches before Candice won the belt? I think that Candice should be given a longer reign than just a month so I will pick her to win and keep the belt although the Women's title isn't really treated as a major title in the WWE so they may not have a problem having it traded back and forth between these two. It's only marginally above the Cruiserweight Title and that's me beng extra generous.
Dave Says: My honey Melina will win.

WWE United States Championship
Montel Vontavious Porter (c) vs. Matt Hardy
I Say: I'll make this simple. Much to his fans' dismay, Hardy is what they call 'enhancement talent' a.k.a. he's a glorified jobber. They only gold that will ever be around his waist is tag team gold. M-V-P with the W-I-N.
Dave Says: I haven't been watching Smackdown so this is a total guess but I'll go with MVP to keep the title a bit longer.

WWE Intercontinental Championship
Umaga (c) vs. Jeff Hardy
I Say: This match is a little tricky. Umaga is rumoured to be part of the whole Jackass match at Summerslam so I don't think that he'll need the title for the match, but it's still a little soon to take the newly gained IC title off of him. I'll go out on a limb and say that Hardy will win and re-gain the IC Title. BTW, Hat's off to Jeff Hardy. His first WWE run was riddled with stories of substance abuse and tardiness (Tardy Hardy), but since he's returned to the WWE I have yet to hear or read one negative thing about him. Perhaps while in TNA he realized how good he had it in WWE.
Dave Says: Wrestlers like Umaga don't generally hold titles for long but I don't see him dropping it to Jeff Hardy. Umaga will win.

Singapore Cane Match
Sandman vs. Carlito
I Say: I would be lying if I said that I wasn't surprised that Sandman is still employed by WWE let alone on WWE TV and on a PPV. I was convinced that after this year's 1NS we would have seen the last of the main 4 ECW Originals. It was a given that RVD was going to be gone. The WWE was just itching to send Sabu packing. Dreamer was rumored to be taken off of TV and to assume a more prominent role in the development of younger talent. As for Sandman, I figured that the WWE would just choose to not renew Sandman's contract and send him on his way. Not only did the WWE keep Sandman around, but they sent him to the 'A' show. As for this match I would have to pick for Sandman's luck to continue and come out on the winning end of this match.
Dave Says: Carlito

Summary
I Say: Lashley, Punk, Khali, Orton, Candace, MVP, Jeff Hard, & Sandman
Dave Says: Cena, Morrison, Batista, Orton, Melina, MVP, Umaga, & Carlito
