WWE Championship Match

Triple H (c) vs. Edge
Here's how it ended - Edge & Vickie's wedding planner, who Edge cheated with before the wedding, came down and tried to give Edge the title to hit Trips with. Vickie came down and clobbered her though. Then the 2 women ended up in the ring rolling around. Trips then pedigreed Edge for the win. I'm not sure, but it looks like the wedding planner may be more than a one shot appearance.
Me: 1/1
Dave: 1/1

WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match
CM Punk (c) vs. Batista
As I predicted Kane interfered. He attacked Batista which caused the ref to end the match. DQ win for Batista right? Wrong! Kane then attacked Punk to and the ref ruled the match a draw. It should have been a DQ win for Batista the moment he was attacked. Kane was also carrying around that little bag like he did on Monday (Spoiler - It's his old Kane mask that he will likely start using again). I'm throwing this match out.
Me: 1/1

Dave: 1/1

Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho
It looked like my possible booking idea may in fact be happening. Jericho elbowed HBK in the eye busting him open. The ref tried numerous times to stop the match, but HBK wouldn't let him. Jericho then tied up HBK's arms and pummeled his eye until the ref just ended it. Later in the night Jericho came out and said that Shawn was diagnosed with a detached retina. Blindfold match anyone?
Me: 1/2
Dave: 1/2

ECW Championship Match
Mark Henry (c) vs. Tommy Dreamer
I missed this match, but Henry won.
Me: 2/3
Dave: 2/3

NYC Parking Lot Brawl
JBL vs. John Cena
[This match was obviously taped the night before] Cena starts off in a car and rams a car that JBL is standing on top of. A lot of broken windshields, dented doors and hoods, blah, blah, blah, JBL sets a car on fire with Cena inside, backstage crew puts it out, Cena escapes, shves JBL in a car, picks the car up on a forklift, drives it into the arena, tries giving JBL an F-U on the stage, JBL reverses it and throws Cena off the stage through a car windshield, and pins Cena. Got it?
Me: 2/4
Dave: 2/4

WWE World Tag Team Championship
The Miz & John Morrison vs. Finlay & Hornswoggle vs. Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder vs Jesse & Festus
I missed this match too. Edgeheads win.

Me: 2/5
Dave: 3/5

WWE Divas Championship Match
Natalya vs. Michelle McCool
McCool wins with a Brazilian Heel Hook (?) after Nattie taps out.
Note: It's since been revealed that McCool won based on the fact that she has some backstage power seeing as how she's dating Undertaker. I should have known.
Me: 2/6
Dave: 4/6

WWE United States Championship Match
Matt Hardy (c) vs. Shelton Benjamin
Missed this match as well. Benjamin is once again a title holder.
Me: 2/7
Dave: 4/6

I did pretty bad. Dave did alright.

WWE Great American Bash 2008 Predictions [Updated]

WWE Championship Match
Triple H (c) vs. Edge
I Say: While I think that there's more money and fan interest in having the babyface chasing the title I don't think that the WWE agrees with me. Trips is still relatively new to SD and therefore he needs to establish his dominance there. Trips wins and retains.
Dave Says: Triple H

WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match
CM Punk (c) vs. Batista
I Say: I really hope that Punk's title reign won't be short-lived. Cashing in the MiTB title shot is supposed to establish someone as a main-event wrestler just like it did to Edge and just like it did for RVD (sort of) and taking the title off of Punk at this point would hurt Punk's immediate future. I think that a Punk win would be a huge upset so I am going with Batista. I really can't imagine a scenario where Punk can beat Batista. I hope I'm wrong though.
Update: I figured out a way that Punk could win - If the newly turned Kane interferes. Yeah, this could mean a DQ win for Batista, but I am going to switch my pick to Punk.
Dave Says: CM Punk

Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho
I Say: This will be the match of the night. After a heel tends to get the best of a babyface leading up to a PPV it's a pretty safe bet that the babyface will get his revenge here and H-B-K will get the W-I-N. Here's how I think the may book it if Y2J wins - Jericho wins and messes up HBK's eye even more leading to a blindfold match.
Dave Says: Michaels

ECW Championship Match
Mark Henry (c) vs. Tommy Dreamer
I Say: I see no chance that Dreamer wins unless it's by DQ. Henry wins.
Dave: Says: Henry

NYC Parking Lot Brawl
JBL vs. John Cena
I Say: I get the feeling that JBL may win this, but seeing as how JBL tried to murder Cena in Raw I'll say that Cena gets revenge and nearly murders him.
Dave Says: Cena

WWE World Tag Team Championship
The Miz & John Morrison vs. Finlay & Hornswoggle vs. Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder vs Jesse & Festus
I Say:
I get the feeling that the WWE may go with a classic storyline where the leader of a group, La Familia in this case, can't capture gold, but the underlings of the group, Ryder and Hawkins here, do carry gold leading to jealousy. I'm not going to go with that though. I'll say that M & M retain.
Dave Says: Hawkins & Ryder

WWE Divas Championship Match
Natalya vs. Michelle McCool
I Say:
Natalya could be the top female wrestler (ability-wise) on SD so it would make sense to have her be the first SD Womens Champion, but the WWE seems to like to put the belt on the ones who aren't much more than pretty faces. I'll go with what I would do and say Natalya wins.
Dave Says: Michelle

WWE United States Championship Match
Matt Hardy (c) vs. Shelton Benjamin
I Say: Hardy retains.
Dave Says: No Pick

I Said: Triple H, Punk, Michaels, Henry, Cena, M & M, Natalya, & Hardy
Dave Said: Triple H, Punk, Michaels, Henry, Cena, Ryder & Hawkins, & McCool

"I've Got The Power, I'm A Man!"

I would have held off on Y2J and Michaels getting physical until the GAB. Even though it's only 6 days, I think that the whole 'Wait until these two get their hands on each other" vibe would have been that much stronger.

When you're trying to build a guy into a top heel it's probably not the smartest idea to have him apologizing to people.

It's good to have another female 'wrestler first/eye candy second' performer on Raw in Katie Lea.

Maybe it was just me, but that backstage Cena interview/promo seemed like the longest one ever...no joking.

Is Santino that much over that the WWE doesn't see any problem will having him constantly lose and as comic relief?

No matter what the WWE does Cody and DiBiase Jr. aren't going to stay over. They may be over a little bit because of the fresh heel turn by Cody, but it won't last

What happened to the Bob Holly & TBA v. Rhodes and DiBiase match for GAB? Summerslam maybe?

Jim Duggan looks like a homeless lumberjack. Is another Duggan heel turn in the works?

It looks like the real reasons that the WWE brought Cryme Tyme back are becoming evident - First there was that WWE initiative to have more African-American performers coming off of the loss of Booker T and Lashley in recent months and now it looks like the WWE needed running buddies for Cena.

The whole 'apparent homicide' angles are a little passe at this point. Of course Cena's not dead and JBL didn't really squash him between two cars. If you don't believe me WWE.com has an article up about how Cena escaped at the last minute. Doesn't that always happen?

Quo Vadimus?

It's a little hard to tell if the WWE audience hates Vickie Guerrero's heel character or legitimately hates her as a human being (a.k.a. X-Pac Heat). I am going to assume that it's just her character since the fans generally hold Eddie in high regard still.

What's the big deal with all of this criticism of how Punk won the title. Isn't it the same way that Edge won the title.....twice?

It was very happy to see that Rey "Mastreo's" return wasn't all hyped up with months of promos. As I said last week - I'm not a fan of his, but if a feud with Rey will keep Santino visible on Raw then I am all for it. I hope that the feud gets a little length and isn't completely one-sided.

I'm happy that Kelly Kelly is now part of the Raw roster, but wasn't the rationale behind moving Maria to SD (with the talent exchange with ECW) that SD didn't have enough faces? Also, she looks like she is improving a lot (still looks a little choreographed though).

I like Cryme Tyme, but what exactly is their role in the whole storyline? Cena's running buddies?

Jericho does it again - He continues to cut some top-notch promos towards HBK. HBK's wasn't that bad either though. I expect their upcoming match (and hopefully continued feud) to be just as good.

Prediction - Once the Y2J/HBK feud is done I expect (and hope) that Lance Cade will fade away into a dark match jobber like Val Venis (no disrespect to Val). I also see a chance that Cade will turn on Jericho and join is former teacher and mentor, Michaels.

What's with these 'bloopers' backstage like the two crew guys knocking a light over and the 'fan' jumping in front of Batista backstage? Is this the start of a gimmick or storyline? Is it another way to illustrate how there is no order on Raw since there is no Vince and no GM?

I was a little surprised that Batista won the title shot considering that the GAB match was rumored to be Punk v. JBL v. Cena. Perhaps the 3-way will be at Summerslam.

Just as I mentioned last week about how there wasn't that many top heels on Raw they go and turn Kane heel.

The Shape of Things to Come

For the first time in I don't know how long I got to see Raw live as it aired so I thought that I would post a few thoughts about the Post-Draft / Post-Night Of Champions Raw.

This is just a shot in the dark, but it looks like Shane and Stephanie will be behind the whole 'accident' last week when the Raw set started collapsing around Mr. McMahon. I would guess that it was their way to get him to stop giving away their inheritance.

I am not a bit surprised that Raw got its Champion back after CM Punk defeated Edge to win the Heavyweight Title (with Batista getting the assist after roughing Edge up as revenge for
NoC). The WWE's top show can't be without a World Title.

I hope that CM Punk's next feud isn't going to be with JBL, but that looks like a real possibility. Who is Raw's top heel right now besides a preoccupied Y2J? JBL. At least until Orton comes back.

What the hell are they trying to do with Lance Cade? Note to WWE - He won't become a top-level heel so stop trying. I thought it was a stretch when the WWE pushed JBL to a top heel, but this is even a bigger stretch.

Jamie Noble feuding with Kane? I don't think it's such a bad idea, but haven't we seen this before with Crash Holly only feuding with guys a lot bigger than him? Noble is a
phenomenal wrestler, but I don't think that a feud with Kane will exactly showcase his skills. Here's to hoping that Noble doesn't get squashed by Kane over and over. If only he would lose some of the gimmick as a stereotypic redneck.

Maybe it's just me but Jericho has been probably the biggest bright spots on Raw for the past month or so. With the whole heel turn, his getting the better of HBK, and his great promos as of late he has really re-established himself as a top-level heel. If only he would ditch Cade.

Although I am not a fan of Rey, I am a fan of Santino so if a feud with Rey will keep Santino on the Raw on a weekly basis I am all for it. I am sure that Rey will dominate Santino though.

I get the feeling that the fans don't really care about the whole Tag Team Title situation. DiBiase isn't over and Cody was only over for a week or two and that was months ago. I hope that Bob Holly doesn't bring in his own partner to feud with them, but he probably will.
