ECW's Debut On Sci Fi - 6.13.2006

In honor of the first episode of ECW's return to national television I have decided to post the results of the first show. I have even decided to once again wrap myself in barbed wire as I did for ECW 1NS. It's time to get EXTREME on Sci Fi!
  • Paul Heyman presents RVD with the new ECW World Heavyweight Championship belt. The belt looked so cheap compared to the WWE Title. It looked like it was a toy made from plastic. RVD elected to keep both belts. Edge then came out and told RVD that he respected him and then speared him. Edge then escaped into the crowd. As he was standing in the crowd looking back into the ring John Cena snuck up behind him and waited for him to turn around. Lita obviously saw Cena standing there before Edge turned around, but had to act like she didn't see him. Edge then turned around and Cena threw him back to the ringside area. Cena, Edge, and RVD then took turns beating up each other. Cena decked Heyman before leaving through the crowd.
  • Heyman was shown backstage telling the ECW lockerroom that he was going to Raw and bringing the ECW with him.
  • Some guy named Zombie came out. He was dressed in ripped clothes and was walking with his arms stretched out in front of him. He looked so stupid. Even Joey Styles and Taz were goofing on him. I'm convinced that it was some sort of joke. He then grabbed the mic and started grunting. Sandman then came out and beat him with a cane and pinned him in 10 seconds.
  • A woman named Kelly (Barbie Blank, one of the women that Johnny Ace signed after seeing her in a swimsuit catalog) was shown backstage telling the camera (and viewers) that she was an exhibitionist and was going to take her clothes off later.
  • The complete Taz v. Jerry Lawler match from ECW 1NS was shown.
  • Kurt Angle defeated Justin Credible with a rear choke body scissors. I don't think that Credible got any offense in during the match. After the match Angle accepted Orton's challenge to a match @ Vengeance.
  • Paul Heyman announced a 10-man extreme battle royale where all weapons are legal. The winner gets to face John Cena @ Vengeance.
  • A Vampire was shown outside of the arena. It's being reported that it was Kevin Fertig who was last seen on WWE TV as Mordecai.
  • Kelly came out and did a little striptease. I was expecting someone to come out and beat her up or some angle to start, but nothing happened. We'll have to see where this leads to.
  • The 10-man battle royale turned out to be 11 men. They were Tommy Dreamer, Sabu, Roadkill, Danny Doring, Al Snow, Stevie Richards, The FBI (Little Guido, Big Guido, & Tony Mamaluke) with Stephanie Finochio (Trinity from TNA), Balls, and Big Show. Sabu won after he knocked Big Show out of the ring with a steel chair. Sabu will now face John Cena @ Vengeance.

I think it was a very solid show for their debut. They did an excellent job hiding the fact that it was filmed the same night as this week's Smackdown. It helped that the ECW entrance way was on the opposite side of the arena from the Smackdown entrance. It turns out that ECW, which was advertised as airing live, was in fact taped earlier in the night. There were two reasons for that. The first being that the WWE wanted to be able to edit the show in case there were some glitches since it was the debut. The second reason is that Sci Fi executives had considerable concerns after hearing some of the chants during the ECW PPV this past weekend. There is no word yet whether or not the show will be on a tape delay every week.
