The Top Six Intros in Wrestling [Updated]

The following is a contribution from guest poster David. This posting will be updated as David completes the entries.

Few elements of a packaged wrestler are more important than the initial introduction theme music and choreography. It sets the pace for the match to come and gets the fans excited. The best intros combine audio and visual effects to set the hearts of fans racing even before the first collar to elbow tie-up. Since the wrestling wars of the mid to late 90's the WWE and now defunct WCW worked hard to improve the quality of their intros so most of the great ones are recent. Here is my list of the top six.

6: Scott Steiner (as Big Poppa Pump)
Scott Steiner is one of the most talented in ring performers ever to lace up a wrestling boot. His mic work however left a lot to be desired. The tag team of Scott and Rick Steiner had neither the aura of the Legion of Doom or the charisma of the Hart Foundation but they made up for it with in ring creativity. Scotty in particular was amazingly coordinated and agile for a big man. Unfortunately the Steiners were saddled with one of the worst theme songs in history (Steinerize) and the two brothers seemed to be in heated competition for the title of worst on the mic. Neither appeared to be capable of sputtering out a complete sentence. The WrestleBlogger and myself used to do imitations of Rick Steiner struggling to get out a promo before descending into incomprehensible dog barks.

In the late 90's the Steiners broke up as a tag team and Scott's body was clearly wearing out. He no longer showed the athleticism that made him famous and seemed to have doubled or tripled his dosages of 'roids. What Scott did at this point was nothing short of amazing. He repackaged himself as Big Poppa Pump and did his level best to create the latest incarnation of Super Star Billy Graham with the multicolored beard and brash attitude. The new Scott Steiner was slower, bulkier and prone to injury but he was also considerably more intimidating and better packaged. Big Poppa Pump continued to struggle mightily on the mic but in this case he was able to change it from a liability into a strength. All he had to do was punch out his catch phrases and toss some childish taunts. The new intro was nothing more than a blaring siren and the awesome physique of Big Poppa Pump. It was a minimalist approach that worked perfectly to establish Big Poppa Pump as a dangerous brute and finally helped to create serious fan attention. Too bad the awesome packaging came about a decade too late for Scott's body.

5: Triple-H
WWE has tended to have problem producing great intros for their top wrestlers. Steve Austin's was fairly good with the crashing glass and heavy beats. Bret Hard had a recognizable and memorable tune but it was Triple H who got the best intro with a song produced by Motorhead ("The Game" not the new and inferior "King of Kings"). I've never been much of a fan of Triple-H. I think he has too much backstage influence and tends to like to involve himself in whatever the top angle in the company currently is. On the other hand he is an incredibly hard worker who's willing to bust his butt for the company. The man finished a match with a torn quadricep for God's sake. What the WWE did was a masterful job of demonstrating intensity and ferocity. From the stage lights shining upwards to the spraying and snorting of water Triple-H looks animalistic and brutal, a far cry from his WWF beginnings as the snooty blue blood. Trips has made a great strides since his goofy days as Shawn Michaels DX sidekick and I have a feeling that this DX reunification will one day be seen as a major step backwards. After years of doing the same intro, Triple-H's has inevitably become a bit stale but from an execution standpoint it still does a marvelous job of establishing the seething fury about to be unleashed.

4: Ric Flair (circa late 80's early 90's)
Ric Flair's gimmick is arguably the most blatent ripoff/homage ever for a top star performer (although Hogan's emulation of Superstar Billy Graham is up there). Wrestling has seen a long line of 'beautiful' male wrestlers with flowing golden manes and sequenced robe. Even his nickname 'The Nature Boy' was borrowed from the previous Nature Boy Buddy Rogers. What Flair did was to take the gimmick and perfect it. In fact Ric Flair pretty much killed the "gorgeous" gimmick because he was so good at it that no one else (save the lamentable Maestro) would ever attempt to emulate what Flair had mastered. Ric Flair LOOKED like a champ. He held himself like a champ and when other people wore the heavyweight belt it always felt like they were just borrowing it from the real champ. Ric Flair is perhaps the only wrestler in history who could be introduced to the theme music to 2001, spin around in a purple sequenced robe while fireworks exploded around him and NOT look goofy. Ric Flairs intro told the entire story. The champ was in the house.

3: Goldberg
Make no mistake, I consider Bill Goldberg to be THE worst wrestler in history. Everything about his career was accelerated from his meteoric rise to fame to his rapid flameout as he grew into a selfish, whiny veteran who believed himself bigger than the show itself. Goldberg is poison in the locker room and dangerous in the ring. Not dangerous like Jake 'the Snake' Roberts dangerous but dangerous like his carelessness ended the career of Bret Hart dangerous. Goldberg will be the first person to tell who he's a magnificent human being but the contrary evidence was clear to many in the audience. On the other hand his WCW entrance was masterful. Goldberg's theme music sounded like a major event was occurring. And then there were the guards. I can only assume that the thinking was that the guards were supposed to represent how valuable Goldberg was to the company. It was a little odd since the guards protected Goldberg in the back but disappeared when he went into the public arena. Goldberg claimed that he modeled his character on mixed martial artists. The MMA fighters often go to the ring with a large entourage so perhaps the guards were supposed to be his own entourage. Whatever the intended reason, the effect was to give fans the impression that Goldberg was larger than life since he was the only commodity in wrestling requiring guards. Add to that a fireworks display that literally bathed Goldberg in sparks until he was snorting smoke and you create the image of a man who fans could believe was unbeatable. The problem was that Bill Goldberg, the man, seemed to have problems knowing where the act ended and reality began. The intensity of Goldberg's intro surpassed even Triple-H but unlike Triple-H the health of the company was irrelevant to Goldberg. Stellar intro, bad wrestler.

2: Chris Jericho (Break the Wall Down)
There are moments in history that can never be captured. These are "you had to be there moments" that are the culmination of events leading up to one shocking moment. In the case of Chris Jericho defecting from WCW to the WWF it represented a turning point in the wrestling wars that would see the WWF return to glory and WCW fall into the dustbin of history. Jericho was a young mid-card talent coming off of several forgettable angles including an ill advised run with Goldberg that showed just how little WCW cared for young wrestlers not named Goldberg. Jericho decided to jump ship to the WWF to try his luck in an organization with a much better record of rewarding talent over politics. WWF started running teaser promos of a millennium clock counting down the moments until… something. Something would happen as the new century approached to change everything. Speculation on who might be the millennium man ran rampant but most agreed it would be Chris Jericho. So you had a mid-card talent coming to the WWF in a moment that would be a surprise to few. In fact, having Jericho as the millennium man seemed anti-climactic leading some to speculate that it might actually be Sid Vicious/Justice. Then on August 9th, 1999 the millennium clock counted down to zero and one of the greatest intros even in the history of wrestling fired up. Chris Jericho, the mid-carder from WCW, was met with thunderous applause as the powerful 'Break the Wall Down' played. Jericho's intro was so strong that the subsequent promo he cut seemed slightly disappointing in comparison. As the years wore on Jericho's intro became old hat but for that one brief moment it was the greatest introduction ever.

1. Gangrels Brood (w/Edge and Christian)
Sometimes all the elements of an intro just fall into place and something magnificent occurs. In the case of Gangrel's Brood the results were spectacular. The music was a perfect blend of heavy beats and a gothic feel. As Gangrel's theme kicked off, the stage would erupt in flames and Gangrel along with Edge and Christian would slowly rise from the floor. I cannot stress how awesome it was visually and the three of them looked perfectly sinister and mysterious. Gangrel would stand there laughing flanked by his two minions. When the Brood finally broke up I was saddened more by the fact that I would never get to see their phenomenal entrance than by anything else. Poor Gangrel was let go soon afterwards after his girlfriend, Luna Vachon ended up crossing the wrong Bimbo Du Jour (Sable). Edge and Christian went on to become one of the greatest tag teams in WWF history and Edge is currently in the hunt for the Heavyweight belt. To anyone who never saw the entrance of the Brood see if you can find it on the internet and prepare to be blown away.

OK, David had his say, but now it's time for me to throw my two cents in. While I am not going to rank them I am going to list some of the more memorable entrances in my opinion.

Chris Jericho's Countdown to the Millenium
Hulk Hogan's Real American Entrance [I am a huge critic of Hulk Hogan, but I have never seen an entrance that gets a better reaction. Especially when he's walking down that aisle and pointing to his opponent in the ring.]
Triple H's post-DX entrances
Sandman's 'Enter Sandman' ECW Entrance [This is perhaps the longest entrance in wrestling history]
Matt Hardy [I really liked how the whole TV screen would turn into a computer monitor and display facts about Matt Hardy]

WWE Vengeance PPV Predictions

Before I give my opening comments I would like to yield the floor to David so he can give his victory speech since he predicted more matches correctly at ECW 1NS.

First, I wanna congratulate myself on my victory last PPV over the indomitable "The WrestleBlogger". Afterwards I was carried to the WrestleBlogger lockerroom where the entire WrestleBlogger staff showered me in champaign and celebrated until the wee hours of the morning. But The WrestleBlogger is not one to take a loss well. I happen to know he's been training his ass off, spending long hours in the gym, downing glassfuls of eggs, taking salt baths to toughen his skin and practicing his most frightening facial expressions. This time I may be in for the challenge of my life when a hardened, hungry "The WrestleBlogger" comes seeking.... VENGEANCE.

Well said David, but just for future reference - it's Wrestleblogger and not THE Wrestleblogger. Also, my name is not Wrestleblogger. That's the name of the site. With that out of the way - I would like to welcome everyone to another edition of Wrestleblogger predictions. Let's get to the picks...

WWE Championship
RVD vs. Edge
I Say: Believe it or not this is one of the easiest pick on the entire card. Raw has been without a champion fro two weeks and I can't see them waiting more than a month more to get the belt back on Raw. Edge is obviously going to regain the WWE Title. That way Raw can have a champ and ECW can have a champ. A lot of people have been down on RVD lately saying that his matches for the new ECW haven't been as good as they were during ECW's original existence. I've got news for those people - that was more than 5 years ago. Get over it. His matches nowadays are fine. Edge's matches in the past few months have been a lot better than matches from earlier in his career. With all of that said I wouldn't be surprised to see this match steal the show.
David Says:This is a tough one. Edge has been getting a lot of airtime lately and the WWE has been building him up to be a top tier talent. He's held the championship strap once already but management obviously felt he needed some more honing and gave the title back to John Cena after just three weeks. My prediction for One Night Stand was an RVD win with a short title reign and I'm sticking with it. Time for Edge to shine (before handing the title back to Cena or HHH).

Handicap Match
Degeneration X (Shawn Michaels and Triple H) vs. Spirit Squad (Kenny, Mikey, Johnny, Nicky and Mitch)
I Say: This match is also an easy one to pick. DX is going to win. It's that simple. DX is not going to be brought back and lose their first match back. It's not going to happen. Is there a small chance that the S. Squad will win? Sure, but it's close to impossible. I see Vince and Shane getting involved somehow.
David Says: I see the new DX getting beaten down and humiliated. Yeah right. Do I really even need to explain why DX will win?
1. HHH is McMahon's son in law
2. They have been teasing a DX reunion for months now
3. DX sells merchandise
4. Spirit Squad is a joke
The only chance I see is the writers decide to give the SS a victory in order to create a feud but I REALLY don't see DX losing at their coming out party. The only question is whether or not we see a new member added at Vengeance.

Extreme Lumberjack Match
Sabu vs. John Cena
I Say: As far as I know the lumberjacks are going to all be ECW guys. I don't imagine that any WWE guys will be used. Is John Cena going to lose 2 big PPV matches is a row? Doubtful. Therefore, I have to pick John Cena to beat the 'Genie' as he called him on Conan O'Brien. I am looking to see a lot of big bumps from Sabu and a lot of schtick from Cena. I completely understand that WWE needs to keep Cena elevated and therefore can't afford to have him lose. On the other hand - Sabu could still use a win to help re-establish him as an ECW icon.
David Says: Sabu's been doing pretty good for a guy who has no future in the WWE. I don't know who the lumberjacks will be but I suspect there will be a ton of ECW goons around the ring. John Cena will land outside, get clobbered by a dozen fists before unleashing his steroid powered rage on half the lumberjacks and FU'ing Sabu into tomorrow. Bet on it.

Randy Orton vs. Kurt Angle
I Say: Since Angle defeated Orton @ 1NS I would tend to pick Angle to lose, but this new Kurt Angle needs to be established as a guy who can dominate anyone anywhere. I'll have to pick Angle to win, but an Orton win certainly wouldn't surprise me.
David Says: MAN of MAN Kurt Angle is looking brutal. The headbutt he delivered Justin Credible on last week's ECW show was the hardest headbutt I've ever seen in wrestling. This was no Big Show headbutting his own hand. This was a hard, headache inducing blow. Kurt Angle is just too hard and too intense to lose to Orton at this point.

Best Of Three Falls Match
Ric Flair vs. Mick Foley
I Say: Let's first state the obvious - Each wrestler will win one of the first 2 falls, the third fall will decide the winner and that the first two falls will be really quick. In one of his promos, Foley made it sound like he would do a lot of technical moves. I am actually looking forward to this if it is true. Also, Foley said on thsi past Monday's Raw that this match would be a 'stinker'. I hope he's wrong, but there is a probable chance that he will be right. I've seen Foley do a technical match once before and he actually knows some good moves. It may have taken him more than 30 years, but I think Ric Flair had finally hit his stride. Just Kidding...His best days are still ahead of him. Seriously, I can see either guy winning this match. My sense tells me that Foley will be the bigger man and let Flair go over him, but I'm going against my sense and saying that Flair will lay down for Foley. I am sure that I'll be wrong, but I'm picking Foley anyways. In closing I would just like to say that this match should have gotten a lot more build-up. Yeah, I know that both of these guys are shells of their former selves, but because of their respective legacies they deserve to have had a better build-up as opposed to going back to a comment that Ric Flair made 3 years ago. Couldn't they have waited until Summerslam? Look for the feud to continue in some fashion after this match.
David Says:Oh Lord. It's tragic what Flair has become. His body looks bloated, his cheeks look like he's storing walnuts for the winter, he talks as if his dentures are about to pop loose and he takes bumps like a rookie. Seriously, I've never seen someone land so awkward after a back body drop than Ric Flair. The Ric Flair aura from the 80's and early 90's has long since faded and the jokes about his age are becoming increasingly painful. Please retire from active wrestling Ric. Please. That said he will be victorious. Flair has been established as a superior mat technician, he is a legend and Foley does have a habit of doing the J-O-B.

Kane vs. "Impostor Kane"
I Say: I don't know what to say about this match. I've never seen the fake Kane wrestle, but I'm pretty sure that he'll be horrible. I'll pick him though.
David Says: Errrr. It's no Undertaker vs Fake Undertaker (and that matched sucked). It all depends on whether this match is the culmination of the angle. I think the mystery will continue for awhile yet so an "Imposter Kane" victory will push the storyline forward. So who was the Fake Undertaker? I know that the wrestler was Brian Lee but who was he supposed to be in the storyline? A third brother? The ghost of Undertaker past? Some joker who could duplicate Undertakers sitting up trick? Wouldn't it be wonderful if they tied in the "Imposter Kane" angle with the May 19th angle and... aw, who cares.

Triple Threat Intercontinental Championship Match
Shelton Benjamin vs. Johnny Nitro vs. Carlito
I Say: If I didn't know about Nitro and Melina's bad reputation backstage at Smackdown I would pick Nitro to will for sure. Not a doubt in my mind. I'm torn - I really want to pick Nitro to still win, but I don't think that his bad behavior is going to be rewarded. I guess I'll go with Shelton retaining even though Carlito has been getting a good face reaction and could certainly regain the title. Bottom Line - I see all three of these guys having a good chance of winning.
David Says: Life has not been kind to Carlito since he moved to RAW. His momentum was killed and he's seems to be lost in the talent pool. I really have no clue who might win this match so I'm going with Carlito only because he's easily my favorite of the three.

Umaga vs. Eugene
I Say: Couldn't they just have this match on Raw instead? I guess not. Eugene had become a joke. Is he a phenomenal wrestler? Sure. Does that prevent him from becoming a joke? No. Umaga has to win. There is no way around it. Maybe Hacksaw or one of Eugene's other friends will interfere. I'm picking (said like Estrada says it) Thee Seemoan Booldoser!
David Says: Logic would say that after two ass kickings by Umaga that Eugene would get his vengeance at the PPV (who's name suddenly escapes me). However, after watching wrestling for two decades I can tell you that you don't bet against island monsters and Umaga doesn't go from destroying Eugene to losing in just one week.
Winner: The Samoan Bulldozer..... Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuumaga

See you @ Vengeance...

RAW 6.19.2006 - News & Notes

  • Vince started Raw off backstage by saying that he was going to destroy DX and that his actions will speak louder than his words. As he was making his way to the ring a guy with a rooster approached him and told Vince that he heard that he likes cocks. Next, someone in an alien suit came up to him and started mocking Vince's walk. Then, 3 male strippers appeared and started dancing for him. Up next was Dusty Rhodes who quickly plugged his new DVD. Finally, a delivery man came up and asked Vince to sign for a package. The package turned out being a penis pump. Once Vince got to the ring he was about to announce his plans to destroy DX, but Shane came out and told Vince that they had to leave because Stephanie was in labor. As Shane and Vince were getting into the limo to leave he told Coach that he was in charge and then called Stephanie a bitch for going into labor at such a bad time.
  • Mickie and Candice defeated Torrie and Maria in a bra and panties tag match. Mickie managed to strip both Torrie and Maria in about 20 seconds. After the match Mickie clotheslined and stripped Candice too. She then went tore the shirt off of some woman in the audience who was obviously a plant. I hope that they haven't decided to have a Mickie v. Candice feud since Beth Phoenix is injured.
  • Viscera and Charlie Haas fought to a no contest when the S. Squad came out and beat both of them down. Before the match Haas told Vis that Lillian accepted his apology last week during some pillow talk. Lillian got upset with the implication. After the match the S. Squad called out DX, but DX refused and appeared on the Titantron instead. They told the S. Squad that they have to words for them...'Look Up'. Then a bunch of 'Nickelodeon You Can't Do That on Television' green slime poured down on them.
  • Paul E. was in Coach's office and proposed two matches - Edge and Orton v. Angle and RVD @ ECW on SciFi and Cena v. Balls Mahoney later in the night on RAW. Coach accepted.
  • J.R. interviewed Kane and it was revealed that Kane would be taking on the fake Kane at Vengeance.
  • Umaga defeated a jobber. After the match Estrada did his usual introduction bit, but the crowd said Estrada before he could and he got pissed and left. It was also announced that Umaga would take on Eugene at Vengeance.
  • Cena defeated Balls with the STFU. Sabu attacked Cena after the match, threw a chair in Cena's face and gave him a Triple Jump Leg Drop through the announcers' table.
  • Orton beat Snitsky.
  • This Week in Wrestling History highlighted a Dusty Rhodes v. Harley Race match from 25 years ago.
  • Carlito lost to Shelton and Nitro in a handicap match. I'm not sure how since the power went out.
  • Coach was shown in his office where DX had spray painted the walls. DX then came in an had a chat with Coach. DX then threw Coach head first into the wall, tore off his pants, and spray painted 'DX' onto his bare ass.
  • Edge defeated Ric Flair following a Mandible Claw from Mick Foley while Lita had the ref distracted. After the match RVD came out, gave Edge a flying kick, and then 5-Star frogsplashed him.
  • DX held their Official Reunion Ceremony. They admitted that they tricked Shane and Vince into believing that Stephanie was really in labor when she really wasn't. Shawn then asked who got her pregnant in the first place. HHH then said that the guy must have been a stud and well hung. The S. Squad music started playing and 5 little people came out dressed as the S. Squad. DX quickly beat them all up. Next Triple H introduced his own idea of cheerleaders - a group of women dressed as cheerleaders. They did a cheer and were about to take their bras off until the real S. Squad came out with a bunch of other heels. (Note: When the female cheerleaders were about to come out Shawn put on a blindfold so he wouldn't see them. This was obviously done to play up his real-life religious beliefs) The other heels quickly decided to go back to the locker room. DX then beat up Mikey and Johnny as the other 3 looked on. The little people then got back into the ring and mooned the S.Squad. They had 'SUCK IT' spelled out on their bare asses.

ECW's Debut On Sci Fi - 6.13.2006

In honor of the first episode of ECW's return to national television I have decided to post the results of the first show. I have even decided to once again wrap myself in barbed wire as I did for ECW 1NS. It's time to get EXTREME on Sci Fi!
  • Paul Heyman presents RVD with the new ECW World Heavyweight Championship belt. The belt looked so cheap compared to the WWE Title. It looked like it was a toy made from plastic. RVD elected to keep both belts. Edge then came out and told RVD that he respected him and then speared him. Edge then escaped into the crowd. As he was standing in the crowd looking back into the ring John Cena snuck up behind him and waited for him to turn around. Lita obviously saw Cena standing there before Edge turned around, but had to act like she didn't see him. Edge then turned around and Cena threw him back to the ringside area. Cena, Edge, and RVD then took turns beating up each other. Cena decked Heyman before leaving through the crowd.
  • Heyman was shown backstage telling the ECW lockerroom that he was going to Raw and bringing the ECW with him.
  • Some guy named Zombie came out. He was dressed in ripped clothes and was walking with his arms stretched out in front of him. He looked so stupid. Even Joey Styles and Taz were goofing on him. I'm convinced that it was some sort of joke. He then grabbed the mic and started grunting. Sandman then came out and beat him with a cane and pinned him in 10 seconds.
  • A woman named Kelly (Barbie Blank, one of the women that Johnny Ace signed after seeing her in a swimsuit catalog) was shown backstage telling the camera (and viewers) that she was an exhibitionist and was going to take her clothes off later.
  • The complete Taz v. Jerry Lawler match from ECW 1NS was shown.
  • Kurt Angle defeated Justin Credible with a rear choke body scissors. I don't think that Credible got any offense in during the match. After the match Angle accepted Orton's challenge to a match @ Vengeance.
  • Paul Heyman announced a 10-man extreme battle royale where all weapons are legal. The winner gets to face John Cena @ Vengeance.
  • A Vampire was shown outside of the arena. It's being reported that it was Kevin Fertig who was last seen on WWE TV as Mordecai.
  • Kelly came out and did a little striptease. I was expecting someone to come out and beat her up or some angle to start, but nothing happened. We'll have to see where this leads to.
  • The 10-man battle royale turned out to be 11 men. They were Tommy Dreamer, Sabu, Roadkill, Danny Doring, Al Snow, Stevie Richards, The FBI (Little Guido, Big Guido, & Tony Mamaluke) with Stephanie Finochio (Trinity from TNA), Balls, and Big Show. Sabu won after he knocked Big Show out of the ring with a steel chair. Sabu will now face John Cena @ Vengeance.

I think it was a very solid show for their debut. They did an excellent job hiding the fact that it was filmed the same night as this week's Smackdown. It helped that the ECW entrance way was on the opposite side of the arena from the Smackdown entrance. It turns out that ECW, which was advertised as airing live, was in fact taped earlier in the night. There were two reasons for that. The first being that the WWE wanted to be able to edit the show in case there were some glitches since it was the debut. The second reason is that Sci Fi executives had considerable concerns after hearing some of the chants during the ECW PPV this past weekend. There is no word yet whether or not the show will be on a tape delay every week.

Raw 6.12.2006 - News & Notes

  • Paul E. started off Raw by announcing that since the RVD v. Cena match @ 1NS was fought under ECW rules that anything goes - even Paul E. counting the pinfall. Therefore RVD is recognized as the new WWE champion and the title will be rechristened the ECW World Title @ ECW TV on Tuesday. He also announced that RVD will defend the title against Edge @ Vengeance and that Edge is invited to ECW TV on Tuesday.
  • Orton & Kane fought to a double-countout. After the match the fake Kane came out and knocked Kane off of the stage.
  • Charlie Haas apologized to Lillian for knocking her off of the ring last week. Vis came out and beat down Haas even though Lillian accepted Haas' apology. It looks like they are turning the accident into an angle for Haas.
  • Vince gave his State of the WWE address. He then said that Triple H will have to pay for what he did last week in the form of a 5-on-1 gauntlet match against the S. Squad.
  • Torrie defeated Candice in a Wet-N-Wild match by pinfall and therefore will be on the cover of this summer's divas magazine.
  • There was no decision in the HHH v. S. Squad gauntlet match. Shawn Michaels came down and helped HHH fight them. They then officially reformed DX by giving Vince double DX crotch chops. Triple H also mooned him. Afterwards Vince announced that at Vengeance it would be the S. Squad v. DX.
  • Hacksaw w/Eugene was defeated by Umaga.
  • Foley cut a promo saying that the cuddly Mick Foley was back. Ric Flair (fresh off of his honeymoon) interrupted and said that he doesn't care about what happened @ 1NS and wanted to tell Foley that he is a glorified stuntman. Flair told him that while real wrestlers like HBK, HHH, Undertaker, Rock, and Austin were busting their asses to make a legacy for themselves Foley was making a name for himself by falling off cages. He then challenged Foley to a match right there. Foley declined but said that since Flair didn't consider him to be a real wrestler that he would he would outwrestle him in a 2-of-3 falls match at Vengeance.
  • Nitro defeated Carlito with Shelton's help.
  • Randy Orton said that since he fought Angle in ECW that Angle should fight him in the WWE at Vengeance.
  • John Cena beat Edge by DQ when Lita interfered. Stevie Richards, Justin Credible, and Balls Mahoney were all sitting ringside. After the match Cena started fighting with them and then laid them out with chairshots. He then got on the mic and said that since he learned last night that anyone can show up in ECW and do anything that he was going to go to ECW TV Tuesday night.

**On a side note - Since it looks like the WWE is recognizing RVD as the WWE Champion I am changing the decision to throw out the WWE Title match @ ECW 1NS. Therefore David had more predictions right with 4/6 against my 3/6.

ECW One Night Stand Results [Updated]

The second annual ECW One Night Stand PPV is in the books. Let's check the results and see who got more predictions right!

Jerry Lawler v. Taz

Prior to the match Lawler walked over to Joey Styles who was sitting at the announcers' table near the entrance. He then smirked and proceeded to slap the taste out of Joey Styles' mouth. Lawler then went to the ring and as soon as the bell rang Joey Styles jumped onto Lawler's back. After throwing Styles off Lawler went for a piledriver on him. Taz snuck up behind him an locked the Tazmission on. Lawler passed out in about 10 seconds and the referee checked Lawler's arm by lifting and dropping it. No response from Lawler. Taz wins. I was disappointed that the match didn't last more than 1 minute. Taz did commentary for the rest of the night.
Me: 1/1
David: 0/1

Masato Tanaka v. Balls Mahoney
Not as good as Tanaka's match last year. I wasn't expecting a real great match so I wasn't disappointed. Balls won after a chair shot to Tanaka's head.

Tajiri & Super Crazy w/Mikey Whipwreck v. The Full Blooded Italians
No Mikey in this match. Big Guido came out with the FBI though. Tajairi, Super Crazy, and Little Guido had better matches than they have ever had in the WWE. A lot of stiff shots. FBI won with a double Fisherman Suplex onto Tajiri. After the match Big Show came out (with a new and much better theme) and kicked Big Guido in the nuts. He then cleans house of all other 4 wrestlers. He put Tony Mamaluke into the Million Dollar Dream/Cobra Clutch and while still having him in the hold gave him a backbreaker across his leg and then (still with the move locked on mind you) threw Tony out of the ring like a rag doll. An excellent match.
Me: 2/3
David: 1/3

Kurt Angle v. Randy Orton
This match was a bit of a disappointment, but still very good. A lot of armlocks and submission holds. Therefore it got a little boring at times. Numerous escapes by Orton, but he ended up tapping after an ankle lock. After the match the ECW ref tried helping Orton to the back, but Orton didn't want any part of it. He motioned toward the back and two Raw trainers came out. Orton accepted their help.
Me: 3/4
David: 2/4

Mick Foley & Edge w/Lita v. Terry Funk & Tommy Dreamer w/Beulah
Not as much of a bloodbath as I expected. Prior to the match Mick Foley cut a promo about how he loved ECW at one time; when it was run by someone who was a pioneer and a genius.....Stephanie McMahon. Foley then started chanting 'Long Live the Alliance'. After team ECW was introduced Beulah challenged Lita to make the match a 3 on 3 match instead. While Lita didn't explicitly accept the challenge, that's what it became after the two women went after each other. Neither woman was ever tagged into the match though. During the match a sheet of wood covered in barbed wire was brought in and it was thrown on top of Funk. Foley later got thrown into it head first. In the middle of the match Foley grinded a piece of barbed wire across Funk's face and Funk started screaming 'My Eye! My Eye!' He then was taken to the back. Foley, Edge, and Lita then triple-teamed Dreamer as Beulah watched. Funk eventually came out with his head wrapped in bandages carrying a 2x4 wrapped in barbed wire. He then tried to light it on fire, but couldn't manage to do it. Beulah had to do it for him. He then hit Foley a few times and eventually caught Foley's back on fire. Foley was then sent to the floor onto the barbed wire covered sheet of wood. Funk would suffer the same fate later. The end of the match came when Dreamer went for the Death Valley Driver onto Lita only to have Edge make the save. As Beulah was kneeling over an injured Dreamer Edge speared her. He then got into the missionary position on top of her and thrusted his groin as the ref counted 3. Team Raw wins. After the match Funk kept yelling 'Help Me! Get me out of here!' as he tried to escape the barbed wire. Adding the women to the match was purely done so neither Funk or Dreamer would have to be pinned.
Me: 3/5
David: 3/5

World Championship
Rey Mysterio (C) v. Sabu
Better than any Rey match I have ever seen. If he did this kind of stuff regularly I wouldn't dislike him so much. During the match as Sabu was standing on a table at ringside Rey jumped onto the ropes and onto Sabu. They both went crashing through the table. Sabu then started holding his own throat as if his throat was crushed. He also was holding his arm. The referee put the 'X' symbol up (which signals the guys backstage that a legit injury has occured), but for some reason nobody came out. The end came when Rey was standing on another table at ringside and Sabu jumped from a chair to the ropes and then gave Rey a DDT through the table. Rey landed right on his head an Sabu rolled onto his own neck (remember, he's had a broken neck before). The ref calls for someone to come from backstage. A squirrelly looking doctor in suit and bowtie came out and after examining both wrestlers yelled out 'It Over!'. The match was a no contest. Both guys had to be helped from ringside. I'm pretty sure that the whole doctor thing is a work. This way Rey can keep the title and Sabu doesn't have to lose. I'm throwing this match out.
Me: 3/5
David: 3/5

WWE Championship
John Cena (C) v. Rob Van Dam
I have never seen a crowd so anti-Cena. There wasn't a single person cheering fro Cena. When Cena came out he was greeted by a flurry of boos and chants of 'Fuck You Cena' along with a sea of middle fingers. I have never seen anyone get such a bad reaction...ever! When Cena threw his shirt into the crowd they started chanting 'Throw It Back'. Cena threw the shirt 4 or 5 times and it kept getting thrown back at him. Eventually he just tossed it onto the floor at ringside. The entire match consisted of the following anti-Cena chants - 'Same Old Shit' , 'Fuck You Cena' , 'Stupid Bullshit' , 'You Can't Wrestle' ,and 'Fucking Asshole'. Whenever Cena was on the floor the fans would put their middle fingers in his face and tell him to go fuck himself. At one point Cena and RVD were trading punched and whenever Cena would throw a punch the crowd would boo and whenever RVD would throw a punch they would cheer. Cena looked like he was enjoying being the heel. The actual match was pretty good. Cena had the STFU on RVD and RVD got to the ropes. After Cena refused to break the hold the ref pulled Cena off of RVD. Cena didn't like that so he laid out the referee. Later on Cena called for a new ref and Nick Patrick (who was the ref for the Rey v. Sabu match) came out. He got knocked out too though. A guy wearing a long black coat and black motorcycle helmet crawled out from under the ring and speared Cena through a table that was in the ring. The man took his helmet off and it was Edge - the man who is supposed to challenge Cena for the title at Vengeance. RVD would get back in the ring and give Cena the 5-Star Frogslpash. No ref though. Paul Heyman came out and counted the 1,2,3. RVD was then announced as the new champ. He grabbed the belt and went into the crowd to celebrate. He eventually made his way back into the ring to celebrate with the rest of the ECW locker room that had come out. Here's the thing....I'm throwing this match out. It's going to be ruled a no contest - most likely on Raw tomorrow. The 3 count wasn't made by an ECW, SD, or RAW referee. It was made by Heyman. Styles and Taz were selling it like RVD was really the new champ and that he would be defending the title against Edge at Vengeance. If I had to guess I would say that the match will now be a triple threat.

Due to the WWE's decision to recognize RVD as the WWE champion I have decided not to throw out this match.
Me: 3/6
David: 4/6

Summary:
David picked 4/6 right and I only got 3/6. David wins. It's too bad that the Rey v Sabu match didn't have a finish. I was actually satisfied with the PPV overall. It was a break from the normal WWE stuff.

Other Notes:
The beginning of the PPV was kicked off by Paul Heyman who thanked the fans for making this possible and all of that other schtick. He then went into a rant about how ECW will once again revolutionize the wrestling world.

Rey was shown numerous times during the opening of the PPV in a video that looks like it will be the new open to the TV show. That makes me think that he may indeed jump to ECW.

Eugene made an appearance. He told the crowd that his Uncle Eric once told him that he was as smart as the ECW fans. Eugene then read a poem talking about how much he likes ECW and how he wants to hug each and every ECW fan in the building. The Sandman then made his way out through the crowd and into the ring. He then beat Eugene with a cane. He kept beating him while Eugene was trying to make his way to the back.

There were rumors that Bill Alfonso would be managing Sabu and RVD at the PPV, but he didn't. He did however come out during the post-match celebration following the Cena/RVD match.

JBL came on and cut a promo from the balcony. He bashed ECW and its fans before going into the whole situation involving the Blue Meanie at last year's ECW PPV. He then ripped into Taz before announcing that he's coming back to Smackdown and taking over Taz's spot as color commentator.

Despite not making the appearance in the FBI v. Guido/Crazy match, Mikey was part of the ECW crowd celebrating RVD's win in the ring at the end of the night.

Nothing involving Justin Creible, Danny Doring, Francine, Al Show, or Stevie Richards.

I was really surprised that they didn't show See No Evil clips a thousand times.

Best signs of the night - Fuck You Cena , The Champ Is Queer , & If Cena Wins We Riot

Kurt Angle came out to a new theme. It's basically the same one that he has always used, but without the parts that people chant 'You Suck' to.

There are reports on the Internet that Sabu said to the ref, 'I tore my bicep' after the first table spot, but I don't think I saw that. That could have been the reason when the ref put up the 'X' symbol.

ECW One Night Stand - Predictions & Other Thoughts

Welcome to a very EXTREME edition of Wrestleblogger PPV predictions. To mark this special occasion I have wrapped my entire body in barbed wire and am ready to set myself on fire at a moment's notice. As For David, he's got razorblade in hand and is willing to juice Mass Transit-style at the drop of a hat. Also, since this is the EXTREME edition of Wrestleblogger predictions I have decided to temporarily relocate Wrestleblogger Command Central to high atop the roof of the site of ECW One Night Stand - The Hammerstein Ballroom in the heart of New York City.

Lets get to the preditions...

WWE Championship
John Cena (C) v. Rob Van Dam
I Say:
All signs point towards RVD winning the WWE Title and renaming it the ECW Championship. I think that RVD winning the title from Cena would be a win-win situation with Cena not having the title anymore and RVD getting a well-deserved title run, but there is one reason that I think that John Cena should win. That reason being that he's da bomb! I'm only kidding - I actually despise him. Seriously, the WWE Title has a rich history and for that reason it should stay in the WWE - either RAW or Smackdown. Yeah, I know that ECW is part of the WWE, but they are billing it as more of a separate promotion and not as an extension of the WWE like RAW and SD are. Therefore I am picking John Cena to retain. I am going with the rule - Cena never loses. The thing with John Cena is that it always looks like he's guaranteed to lose and he somehow finds a way to win. I would normally say that RVD would win by DQ or something, but I am pretty sure that ECW doesn't use DQs (or countouts or rules of any kind). I find it strange that nobody has brought up the fact that back when Jerry Lawler initially invaded ECW in 1997 RVD and Sabu (with their manager Bill Alfonso) formed an alliance with him an turned their backs on ECW. After John Cena wins I expect to see a riot to start and the Hammerstein Ballroom to be burnt to the ground. Is it possible that after Cena wins that he will gain the respect of the ECW fans and that they will give him a standing ovation? As Vince would say - 'No Chance. No Chance In Hell'. One last bit of information - RVD was scheduled to win the ECW World Title during the promotion's original run, but he broke his leg and plans had to be scrapped.
David Says: I'm torn on this one. I always want John Cena to lose. I think the smart money would be on a title change for three reasons. First, it would give some legitimacy and interest to Vince McMahon's new ECW brand. Second, it would be the natural conclusion to Rob Van Dam's victory at WrestleMania. Third, hometown hero's always have the advantage and ECW is RVD's hometown. On the other hand John Cena is tough to bet against. The title was literally created for him and as bad as Cena is on the mic RVD is even worse and Van Dam just doesn't have that world champ feel to him. I'm going to go with RVD for a very short title reign.

World Championship
Rey Mysterio (C) v. Sabu
I Say:
I would love to see Sabu beat Rey. Hell, I would love to see anybody beat Rey. Unfortunately, it's not going to happen. I am going with another rule and saying that Rey is going to win. I am actually looking forward to this match. From what I have seen Rey's ECW stuff is quite entertaining. His WWE stuff stinks....STINKS! Speaking of stinking - I don't think that Vince would ever put the World Title on a guy (Sabu) who still has the stink of TNA on him (Eventhough TNA didn't hesitate putting their World Title on Christian right after he arrived in TNA from WWE). I would be very happy to see Rey do a lot of high-flying extreme spots, but he would absolutely destroy his body. His body is so rundown at this point that any extreme spots here could end his career (Please Rey! Do some extreme spots! I'm begging you!). The only reason that he is still World Champion and on TV is that the WWE doesn't have a good angle to get the strap off of him. I can't believe that I am saying this, but I can't wait until Batista comes back. The sooner he comes back the sooner Rey loses and is taken off of TV. WWE.com has posted an article about how Paul E. offered Rey a ECW contract after the WWE v. ECW special. Therefore I see a small (very small) chance of Rey jumping ship so ECW can have a champion, but I see Rey staying loyal to the WWE brand. I would much rather see the World Championship go to ECW than the WWE Title. Since the World Championship is really the WCW belt I see no problem with it jumping to another 'promotion' (eventhough it's really a brand). Finally, rumor has it that Rey was very disappointed in his match at last year's ECW 1NS against Psicosis because he decided to do a West Coast Pop and a 619 . Basically, he felt that he did a WWE-style match at an ECW event and the crowd didn't go for it. So it should be interesting to see whether or not he does a WWE style match with his WWE trademark moves.
David Says: Please, this is the five star sure thing bet of the evening. Always go with Mysterio. Bookers seem to inexplicably love him. I certainly don't see ECW winning BOTH world titles and McMahon just has nothing invested in Sabu. Sabu is old and apparently botching spots badly. Unlike WCW I think that Vince McMahon still thinks of the world title as sacred and wouldn't throw it on Sabu just to create some brief interest. Unlike Sabu RVD has proven himself in the WWE and his win wouldn't seem at all absurd.

Jerry Lawler v. Taz
I Say:
There has been so much talk between these two about choking-out that it's pretty safe to assume that Taz is going to choke-out Lawler. Let's face it - There's a very good chance that this could be the last match of Taz's career. I am sure that Lawler will wrestle again at some point. Therefore I'm picking Taz to win. Most likely via Tazmission. I am hoping that 'The Human Suplex Machine' Taz will do a lot of the suplexes that made him famous, but he's not really in ring shape any more so I don't know how likely that will be.
David Says: Despite his age and paunch Lawler almost never seems to lose. Lawler's wrestling skills are diminished and his r'epertoire of moves seems limited to slow moving heymakers. Taz is also notorious for losing. Lawler will win.

Kurt Angle v. Randy Orton
I Say:
Kurt Angle is being built-up to be one of ECW's top-tier guys along with RVD. There is no way that he can come out of 1NS on the losing end. I have also read that Orton's attitude backstage has changed very little from what it was prior to his suspension and that can't be good for Orton's chances of winning. Angle isn't ECW alumni so he is going to have to pull out all of the stops to win over the rabid ECW crowd. I have to go with Angle to win. I am predicting that Orton will escape multiple ankle locks only to submit in the end. Big Shows involvement is a lock. Perhaps this whole defection to ECW is a trick and he'll realign with Raw, but I doubt it.
David Says: Kurt Angle is perhaps the best wrestler in the WWE and Orton is in the dog house. I see Angle winning in a very physical match. Orton may get a lesson for misbehaving from a stiff working Angle. Angle doesn't need to give people cheap shots to abuse them in the ring. This will be the match of the evening with Orton left battered and aching.

Mick Foley & Edge w/Lita v. Terry Funk & Tommy Dreamer w/Beulah
I Say:
A big question going into this match is whether or not Edge will be willing to take the level of punishment (or more) that he took at WM22. Foley, Funk, and Dreamer all have a track record of putting their bodies on the line and take extreme amounts of punishment. I think that Edge and Foley should win, but I am picking Dreamer and Funk to come out on top. I see a chance of Foley returning to his roots and turning on Edge. This whole thing with Edge could just be a big ruse so Foley can show him what true hardcore is about. Expect this match to be full of weapons and lots of blood - More blood than has been seen on WWE TV or PPV in a long time if not ever. This match will be the match of the night - I am really looking forward to seeing Terry Funk get beaten within an inch of his life. Just like every Ric Flair match consists of Flair doing a Front Face Flop, expect Funk to do one of his usual 'moves' where he stands in the middle of the ring with his legs spread apart while swinging his arms wildly . I am looking for Sandman to interfere and help team ECW in this match. I also would like to see thumbtacks play a role in this match. (I wonder if a special permit is needed to use explosives in the ring). Lita and Beulah will probably have a catfight of some sort during the match. BTW, why aren't they mentioning how Lita got her start in ECW?
David Says: Edge is the only legit wrestler in this match. Funk is ancient, Dreamer's a soupcan and Foley is just a glorified stuntman (just kidding). Funk and Dreamer will dominate the match with sissy punches and frequent tags until Edge spears Funk breaking his withered frame in half. Then Funk will do what Funk does best, get his ass royally kicked from pillar to post. Dreamer will receive some serious abuse too and a mandible claw will leave him weeping like a school girl who just got her Sunday dress all muddy.

Masato Tanaka v. Balls Mahoney (Yet to be officially announced)
I Say:
I have absolutely no interest in Balls Mahoney. I've always pictured him as a slightly less retarded version of 'Hacksaw' Jim Duggan - both in looks and intellegence. Add to that the fact that Tanaka's match against Mike Awesome at last year's 1NS stole the show and I have to pick Tanaka to win. For some reason Balls is way over and I can't explain why and for that reason I am sure that he'll win and I'll be wrong. Initially I would have picked Axl Rotten to interfere somehow, but he no-showed Raw and was nowhere to be seen at the WWE v. ECW special so I'm not sure if he's still going to be involved in the relaunch of ECW.
David Says: I haven't the slightest idea. Balls Mahoney wins.

Tajiri & Super Crazy w/Mikey Whipwreck v. The Full Blooded Italians (Yet to be officially announced)
*It should be noted that some online wrestling sites have Tajiri teaming with Mikey Whipwreck instead of with Super Crazy (with Mikey Whipwreck in their corner).
I Say: First off, I'm not really sure who the FBI is going to be. Did Terry Smothers agree to do the show? Is the WWE going to scrap the whole Vito dressing like a woman angle? Since Little Guido (Nunzio) and Tony Mamaluke are under WWE/ECW contract I am going under the assumption that they will be the FBI. I am unsure if Tajiri has inked a deal with ECW so it's a little hard for me to go with a team that isn't fully under contract. I have to pick the FBI (whoever they turn out being). I sure hope that they don't try to continue the Smackdown storyline by having Vito come down in a dress.
David Says: Agh, A match I totally don't care about. I'll pick Tajiri and Super Crazy.

Summary:
I picked: Cena, Rey, Taz, Kurt Angle, Funk/Dreamer, Tanaka, & The FBI.
David picked: RVD, Rey, Lawler, Kurt Angle, Edge/Foley, Balls, & Tajiri/Super Crazy.

It looks like we disagree on the RVD v. Cena, Lawler v. Taz, Edge/Foley v. Funk/Dreamer, Tanaka v. Balls, & Tajiri/Super Crazy v. FBI matches.

Other Thoughts:
Here's a list of talent that has been confirmed for the PPV, but have unknown involvement at this point: Sandman, Big Show, C.W. Anderson, Justin Credible, Al Snow, Stevie Richards, Danny Doring, Francine, Axl Rotten, Jazz, and Vito.

It was unfortunate that the much talked about Eddie Guererro tribute match between Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko doesn't look like it's going to happen, but in the unlikely event it does I am picking Benoit to win.

I think that Heyman, Dreamer, and whoever else is booking the PPV and promotion should bring in Blue Meanie and bring Simon Dean over to reform the bWo with Stevie Richards.

The WWE has signed Gangrel to be part of the ECW brand and from what I hear it's to appease the execs at Sci Fi Network. The network wants some sort of science fiction element to the show. Originally Sci Fi asked WWE to have an alien character, but the WWE declined. Both sides eventually agreed on a vampire; Gangrel. There may even be a entire faction of vampires in ECW. No word yet if Gangrel will be part of the PPV, but it looks doubtful.

No rumors of Steve Austin's involvement if any. I think he's filming a movie so I don't think he'll be appearing.

I am a little surprised that there has been absolutely no news regarding Kid Kash being part of the PPV or the ECW brand in general. The same thing goes for Bill Alfonso and Joel Gertner as well.

The WWE should put a match with the Impact Players (Justin Credible & Lance Storm w/Dawn Marie) on the card.

No announced involvement for Sandman as of yet. That's very surprising given that he is one of ECW's top guys of all time.

No matter what happens with the World Titles at least one of the brands (Raw, SD, & ECW) is going to be left without a champion. If my predictions are right then ECW will be left without a champion. What they could do then is start a tournament to determine the first world champion of the new ECW.

I hope that there will be a lot of high and extreme spots. I think that we will see at least one spot off of a balcony and at least one spot into the crowd.

Finally, I am looking to see a lot of blood on the PPV. I'm not talking about any stupid John Cena bleeding like when he has a single stream of blood running down his face. I'm talking the kind of bleeding the puts Ric Flair to shame. I think it goes without saying that I wouldn't want to see anyone lose enough blood to put their health or lives in danger. I want to see a lot of weapons too. Weapons like flaming baseball bats wrapped in electrified barbed wire.

WWE v. ECW Special - 6.7.2006

Here's a brief rundown of the WWE v. ECW Special

  • A 4-man broadcast team was used consisting of WWE's J.R. and Jerry Lawler and ECW's Joey Styles and Taz. The whole show consisted of Lawler taking shots at Styles and Taz and vice versa. J.R. was the only one that was acting civil. Later in the night Lawler and Taz got into a fight.
  • RVD defeated Rey with a 5-Star Frogsplash.
  • Angle cut a promo and was interrupted by Orton. Orton said that by defeating Angle he would destroy ECW. He also announced that he was now back on the Raw roster.
  • Mickie James defeated Jazz.
  • Cena did his usual schtick (like how the odds are against him) during a backstage promo.
  • Paul E. addressed the crowd and ran through the 5 announced matches.
  • 20-man WWE v. ECW Battle Royale (first team to eliminate the opposite team wins). WWE's Big Show and Randy Orton eliminated ECW's Kurt Angle. Big Show then tore off his Raw shirt to reveal an ECW shirt. He then eliminated Orton to win the match for ECW. Also, during the match senile ole Terry Funk went after (his teammate) Justin Credible. Justin had to point to the ECW logo on his shirt to prevent Funk from hitting him.
  • Edge defeated Tommy Dreamer after a spear while Dreamer was about to powerbomb Lita.
  • ANOTHER SEE NO EVIL VIDEO PACKAGE!!!
  • Foley cut a promo about how he has to destroy ECW and how his WM22 match will be nothing compared to the 1NS match.
  • John Cena defeated Sabu by DQ when Big Show attacked him after Cena gave Sabu the F-U and had him in the STFU. I wonder how Cena got DQ'd when the match was supposed to be 'Anything Goes'.

On a side note: I was surprised to the that the WWE didn't acknowledge the passing of John "Earthquake' Tenta at the start of the show.

RAW 6.5.2006 - News & Notes

Triple H is shown backstage talking to Shane. Shane tells him that if he reasons with Vince that he won't have to join the Kiss My Ass Club.

John Cena and RVD had the contract signing for their match at ECW 1NS. RVD tells Cena that he better be prepared to go to the extreme at 1NS and that there will be no chain gang at the PPV and that he will be booed out of the building. Paul E. then informs Cena that he will not only get a taste of ECW at the WWE v. ECW special but he will also get a taste tonight. Tommy Dreamer, a very old looking Terry Funk, a slimmed-down Sandman, and fat Balls Mahoney come out of the crowd and surround Cena. Cena tries to take them all on, but is quickly beaten down. They put Cena on the table and Sabu comes out and does a botched ARabian Facebuster on Cena. The Raw lockerroom empties out to chase the ECW guys away.

IC champ Shelton Benjamin faced Carlito in a non-title match. That means that Carlito won.

Vince tells Triple H backstage that he has just gotten an 'asshal' (an ass facial) in preparation of Triple H kissing it. Triple H said that he wasn't going to kiss his ass. Vince said that if Triple H could beat Big Show then he wouldn't have to kiss his ass. During the match the S. Squad attacked Big Show making Triple H lose by DQ.

Eugene w/ Hacksaw Dugan defeated Matt Striker with that shoulder block thing that Duggan used to do. Striker attacked Eugene after the match until Duggan made the save. Umaga then came out of nowhere and laid both Eugene and Duggan out.

Pittsburgh native came out and was about to cut a promo when Foley interrupted. They jawed back and forth and Edge eventually came out. They jawed a little more and then Angle gave Foley an Angle slam and Edge the ankle lock. Randy Orton then came out of the crowd and RKO'd Angle. Backstage Orton told Todd Grisham that he was accepting Angle's open challenge @ ECW 1NS.

Kane lost to Lance Cade by count-out when the same boring music and video started playing challenge Kane to go backstage. Kane went back and was attacked by the fake Kane again with a trash can full of pipes.

Speaking of Kane - How many damn times are they going to play clips from See No Evil !?! It seems like they are playing the same clips every half-hour week after week after week. It's enough already.

A promo played for 2 Scottish barbarian looking guys calling themselves the Highlanders. Apparently they are on their way to the WWE.

Nitro beat Charlie Haas with a roll up after he was distracted when Melina came into the ring and pretended to twist her ankle. When Haas ran into the ring he bounced off of the ropes and knocked Lillian Garcia to the floor. It looked like an accident, but it could be a total work.

Beth Phoenix w/Trish beat Victoria w/Mickie with the same Michinoku Driver-type move as she used last week.

Jerry Lawler accepted Taz's challenge to a fight at 1NS.

Shane was backstage with Triple H. When Triple H's back was turned Shane drugged his water. Triple H then switched water bottles with him when Shane was distracted. They both started chugging water like they were doing a commercial for Aquafina.

Vince & Shane are in the ring. Vince introduced Triple H. Triple H then starts to pretend like he's been drugged. He the starts staggering around and eventually faints. Vince then drops his pants and orders Shane to make HHH kiss his ass. Shane then starts acting drugged and passes out. Triple H then stands back up and Vince, realizing the Triple H was faking, turns around and gets pedigreed to end the show.
